Looking to buy a Delica
Look on the ones Rising Sun has for sale on Craigslist. Diesel is a bit different from a gas model so follow the list that he fixes before he sells them. Also there’s probably a list on this forum of stuff to do right away. Another option is to import one through a importer. It would be way cheaper ...

Looking to buy a Delica
Velocity cars are a good price for a reason. I bought one and I’m generally happy with it. They don’t do any maintenance but maybe change the fluids. That is why there prices are good. If you are a good mechanic then it’s a good buy because you can do the work yourself. I have tried to get parts fro...

Batteries dead/not charging
There should be an alternator shop around you that can overhaul in a day for under 200$. It is a real pain to remove but might be a lot easier if you take the drivers seat out and the panel under it. If you read the thread on the head replacement it shows how to remove it. I’ve had my alternator reb...

Check the ground that attaches to the head under the glow plugs. If the head was off that could have easily been missed. Also check for voltage on the glow plug rail to see if your actually getting power to them.

When using a wrench or any tool around the battery be careful. You don’t want to start welding.

Sounds like the positive terminal on your battery where the alternator attaches the should be a fuse too. Make sure everything is tight! If you can wiggle it by hand it’s not tight enough put a wrench on it.

Maybe take some pictures of the engine and post them. You might have missed something with the glow plugs or earth strap when putting the head back together.

Electrical fail, car won't start or turn, blown fuse?
There's a fuse attached to the top of the red battery terminal. If your alternator is shorted that will blow. Try disconnecting the alternator plug and wire and replacing the fuse. Then drive it to a spot that you can get the alternator rebuilt at since your in San Francisco.

I read on the bc4x4 forum that changing the air filter caused the reading to go from 50 to 16 in the opacity test.

Fuel filter? Don't think that will help you. Maybe try running low sulfur diesel if your not already.

Make sure you blow the black smoke out before they do. If they blow it out it's bound to fail. What I use to do is take it on a highway and step on it to blow the black smoke out. Don't rev it pass 3000 as that's not good for the engine but I guess a little past is ok for a short amount of time. Als...

The back cover comes off the tailgate easy. A couple of screws and some clips to get to the latch mechanism. It might be just the latch need to be pride up but it sounds like it could be more than that.

Another seat belt question regarding the L300
I religiously keep my rpms below 3000 and have had my delica for over 10 years. Also I add stanadyne lubricity at every fill up because a fuel pump is expensive and low sulfur diesel will ruin it. Sorry got off track on the thread.

Another seat belt question regarding the L300
I think they were introduced in mid 1991. I had a 1991 that was early 91 and installed them myself. I bought them from a delica being parted out. The bottom attachment is easy it's the shoulder roof bolt that's a bit of a pain.
