Whats the Diff??

Post by petervanschie »

Hey everyone,

Just looking at the technical data sheet and it suggest Hypoid 80w or 90 (GL4 or GL5) for a conventional diff OR Castrol LS 90 or LSX 90 (GL5 or GL6) for a limited slip diff.

So my question: How can I tell which type of differential is fitted to my Delica L300 (Delica Star Wagon - HSRPT2 Exceed (Crystal-LITE ROOF))??

I would also be happy to hear what gear oil you guys are using inside your vehicles?? brand and viscosity. As I have a little trouble finding hypoid 80w specifically. I'd prefer to just pick up something from canadian tire :-D :-D :-D 8-)

From Delicaclub.com:

“Easy way to check if your diff is LSD is to jack the Rr end with both wheels off the ground.
Spin one of the wheels & if the other one spins in the same direction then it is an LSD. If the opposite wheels spins in the oposite direction then it is a standard diff.”

As to where to get oil, I go to Benson’s Autoparts. Should be one in your neighbourhood. It’s a good idea to invest in an oil change hand pump, Benson’s has them for ~$35. It’s really hard to get oil into a diff without one
