The canvas can be mounted both ways. The struts and hinges are in the opposite front to rear location.

I don't think it's a problem,many volkswagen are mounted like this.

If it's secured it would be fine. It's an odd arrangement for the delica as the roof extends over driver/passenger's heads. How would you climb up?
