Looks like delica dj/marsgal have some interesting taste. Citroen!?...really? I guess they are kinda cool, but I have only ever seen the north american versions, and they seem much uglier than some of the euro variants.
Does anyone have a good link to why so many foreign vehicles are suppressed from entering our markets, I have a pretty good idea, but some articles would be nice.

Ok, what about the fastest car you ever had? Mine was an 87 saab 900 spg turbo, it was bored out with oversized turbo. Fun car, a real screamer, probably good that its gone though, everyday going home from work I would take it up to 210km/hr. I think that 230km was my fastest . Man, that thing ate mustangs, I even raced a dodge srt-10 half ton on the highway, he pased me when we got to about 185 but went by slowly...wicked!

Next on the list ( this may have to wait till the kids are grown ) is a Honda NSX

Here in Canada we got the European versions of the Citroën DS and SM, complete with their wonderful steerable halogen headlight systems. At the time U.S. regulations required fixed round sealed-beam headlights, hence the butchered front ends. Canada had no such requirements. My dad always replaced the headlights in our cars with SEV Marchal halogen headlights. I remember the "cat" logo on them.

The Europeans got squeezed out by safety and emissions regulations that were (at the time) unique to North America. They also had difficulty competing with Japanese cars, which were coming on strong in the early 1970s. So they pulled out. I saw a couple of Citroën SMs around Vancouver in the 1970s, and my aunt and uncle used to drive a DS. A friend of mine drove a Renault. I helped somebody do some work on a Fiat X1/9. Lada did well here, since cars designed for Russian winters would have no trouble with Canadian winters. And so on.

The situation is different now. Companies like Fiat and Renault make excellent cars that compete with the best of them. They meet stricter safety and emissions standards than are required for North America, but since only the manufacturer can certify this, and they don't wish to, we can't buy them here.

On trips to Europe I've played tunes on a Fiat Punto in Brussels, zipped around suburban Paris in both a Renault Twingo and a Mégane, hurtled down to Cornwall in a Ford Focus, and explored Kent in a Renault Clio. I drove flat out from Paris to Barcelona in a Fiat Marea. All nice cars, all would do well here.

I pretty much have a full range of vehicles with 2 exceptions. I can do without a skateboard so the only thing missing is an economical warm weather car. It mustn't be a convertible, or too cool, or it will compete with my (awesome) motorcycle for summer driving. Also, I will not tolerate an uninteresting vehicle in my stable, therefore...

Laura I can understand your attraction to Citroen's. Interest was twigged 20 years ago in europe , and now there are many classic models riding the roads of Thailand. The DS, SM, CX, and XM are the models seen daily>
Rough, well used XM's are common, funky and cheap,
the CX is boring compared the others,
the SM's are the rarest it seems yet this previously unknown model to me can be just gorgeous,
and localy there are dead DS's sitting around (norm anywhere in the world maybe) BUT there are two DS remakes where the entire redone body sits on a newer Honda Prelude frame, running gear and electronics. Easily done here as labor cost at the body shop just can be compared to North America.

Edit - this week checked out the interior of the Citroen Jumper passenger van, wicked nice layout.

And Tony want a newer VW mini van instead of a Delica.

Almost any variation of the lotus elise/exige - high performance via light weight. True Super car performance, sparse on features. It's amazing what they squeeze out of a toyota 1.8 L engine. And they are kind of cheap - everywhere except canada that is. You can buy a used one in the US for under 30K. Unfortunately for us, the US has the better end of this one. In canada there are only 3 dealers that sell them, and they sell them for nearly twice what they go for in the US, even though they are almost identical cars. And they have the used market tied up - Lotus will not provide the certificates to allow the US cars into canada. If they did, the 3 dealers would loose their total control of the market and their huge profits. The result - a used Elise/Exige in canada is only slightly cheaper than a new one.
