Winter Tires

and I find they suck as snow tires.

of course it all depends on your comparison, when I got the dueller A/T Revos on my old work van I was amazed at what an awesome winter tire they were... of course that compared them to the stock ford tire which is effectively smooth plastic....

just called like 5 stores around toronto and the only one they have is the lattitude Xice for 190! Firestone Winterforce had one for 140 but its a 265/75/15.... didnt know it was going to be tough looking for tires... Might have to save for some 16's wheels and tires for next year :)

Went to Tirerack.com and for the USD version of my truck it always says 235/75/15 then when i called the dealer they said that the 265/70/15 was an option at that time... hmm.. very confusing.

Has anyone considered going to a 16x7 rim and using 265x70x16 tire instead of a 265x75x15 or 31x10.5x15 for winter tires?

The 265x70x16 is only 0.14% smaller diameter than a 265x75x15, and only 1.21% smaller than the 31's. There seems to be much greater selection in the 16".

If one is going to buy winter rims anyways, what would the disadvantage be going to a 16" rim?

I run Kumho AT off season and just got a spare set of rims from Mardy and put some Firestone Winterhawk on 'em. Nothing beats a snowflake certified snowtire. Soft to around minus 30.

You can not buy from a dealer less than 4 snow tires. IF you need singles, go to Craigslist. There's lots on there.

Hi All,

I got a 94 Pajero with 265/70/15 tires and am looking for some Winter Tires. I checked tirerack.com and the Monteros use 235/75/15 so i found some good deals on snow tires. When i when to check the size difference it looks like the 235/75/15 are alot smaller than i thought. Should I go for it since its the OEM Montero size? i cant seem to find affordable winter tire on 265/70/15

Snow tires are meant to be smaller and narrower, so you can put chains onto them and not tear out your fenders. The size you cited for the Montero is correct (I have a set I no longer need, trying to sell them, see my signature block).

I use a winter tire guide. This is one of the better ones, and easy to follow.

The Hakkapeliitta 7 SUV's are awesome for where I live, but we likely get more snow than all y'all.

Hancook ipike work good. I have been using a set on my van the past two winters. They have a couple different models (tread patterns). Been very happy with them.

I put the 235/70s on my l400 because I got a great deal on them .speedo reads 8 k low but no change in fuel economy , can live with that a few months of the year

I am in to my second winter with a set of Goodyear Wrangler Terrritory 31-10-15 from Can tire on my 1995 Pajero These are among the best that I have used. They are very good in the snow and hold up very well on the gravel as well. They replaced the 265-70-15's and there are no clearance issues at all.
