Would these Baldwin be a direct replacement for the Stanadyne or do they need a different filter head? (so they are rated 2u but are they water block?)

And thanks Adam for FRAM info, would rather find proper filter but will keep in mind.

They would need a new head but you could replace it any of the filters listed above. The Fuel Manager we have only takes its own type filter from what I can see.

David you can read some posts on a TDI forum and that should answer more questions:

Good info on the CAT filter, but sounds like they use it on their stock filter head don't they? Have you searched for a compatible filter head that could work in our set up, and would you consider a heated one or just rely on the in-tank heater (and/or in-line heater)?

I still have AndrewH's kit in a box as with the little time that I have I try using it to finish the system on my truck as the one from Andrew will be for my wife's van (well it's still mine but she likes to think it's hers...) so I may forget how Andrew's system is supposed to work... forgive me if I'm on the wrong track! :?

I have a Donaldson head arriving to tomorrow, I will post how it goes when I pick it up. I will also try and go to the Finning Cat delaer and get the CAT filter I read it is superior.

sorry, I didn't know people where having a lot of trouble finding filters. This info should relieve that...

from what I can tell these are all direct replacements of the stanadyne 35612 filter included in the kits.

These are 2 micron replacements:

John deere RE509032 (100% match) RE62420 (pretty sure but need to confirm)
Baldwin bf7677-d (my buddy is using this filter with the stanadyne head included in the kits)
Roosamaster - 32179

These are direct replacements but they are 5 micron (still damn good)

John Deere RE53727 and RE67901
Case - 87802911
Caterpillar - 145-4501
Caterpillar - 223-0702
New Holland - 87840590 and 87801285
Perkins - 26560141
Perkins - 26560139
GM (yes at the GM dealer) - 12554082/TP1263 but it is only 5.1" long rather then 6" like the above.

The baldwin one is on ebay right now...12 bucks!

update:

just did a quick search on yellowpages.ca under the filter section and the first place I called has 43 of the Baldwin filters in stock at a little over $20 a piece when buying a decent amount (the more you buy, the cheaper they get).

The place is called Les Hall Filter and they are located in Vancouver, 604-986-5366

I didn't bother asking about any of the other filters as they are a large dealer of Baldwin filters.

I am going to look into Baldwin in the states and see if I can get a better deal then the 16$ USD for the stanadyne element.

Thanks for checking, Les Hall had the filter Andrew H gave us a part # for.

Ronin,

Are you still looking for the MAC filter? I'm still curious (before I start to install it...)

Yep. Although Andrew advised a replacement, it was found at a specialty shop. I want something that crosses with 10 different filters so I wont be stuck anywhere I go. I am sourcing a filter head right now, with a hand primer and will check the CAT filter price hopefully on Monday.

It would be nice to be able to purchase a filter on a Saturday, or after work on a weekday... Specialty shops can be inaccessibly annoying.

Sorry guys, I have been just dealing with life in general and all of this is on the back burner at the moment. I did pick up a CAT filter for $20 at the local Finning CAT dealer, the filter looks to be a good design. As for the head, I purchased a Racor head with a primer on it but it doesn't fit with the CAT filter, so I have to decide to go with the Racor or find another head for the CAT type. The Racor has a clear bowl and has a heater I can wire in so it is a good option, but I will need to research filter availibilty.

39,

Talk to Jay (Tardisdeli). He works in the boat industry and has good contact/knowledge. I've been looking at the Racor as well and Jay has been very helpful.

Keep in touch,

Stanadyne Fuel Filter Element

Post by Jordan »

The only crossovers locally (Nelson) were around $50 a pop so I ordered a case of baldwins from Les hall in north van for $15/filter. I also tried to buy a WIX, all the dimensions were correct but it has raised metal bumps making it not fit in the collar.
