top end price for a delica ?

Post by bryanc »

there was a delica luxury imports had coming in, it was listed as price pending for quite awhile and it's now listed as sold. it was a super with 20 000 km it looked mint from the photo's and i'm sure it went for about the max a delica could fetch and i'm just really curious what that would be ,does anyone out there know what it went for ? :?

I had looked into the one of which you speak and at the time Wayne had quoted me a price of $17K. I believe this in the one Jungle Jon bought and had a catestrophic failure immediately after pick up.

I bought mine from VI and it's the exact same model and year the one in Calgary and in the same shape although the mileage was higher and I paid $9900. Just shows it pays to look around!!
Cheers!!

That one with 20,000 Km has a spoiler and was mint. I took a peek at it on the weekend. I believe it is going to a lucky someone in Victoria. Mine had the roofrack and ladder.

I'm not entirely sure that 20,000kms on a 15 year old vehicle is a good thing. I've seen plenty of catastrophic failures due to unusually low mileage engines....

I took a look at the one Jungle Jon picked up... and when Luxury imports claimed it was in excellent shape... wow... that's an understatement! 15 years old and only 25,000km... and looked to be in show room condition, I couldn't find a scratch on it, inside or out... absolutely beautiful vehicle!

Jon, I have to admit, I'm just a wee bit jealous... you did well there!

I paid 10400 for 22000k - super exceed. Mileage is real and the condition was mint (one 1/2" scratch on a door). 6,000 k later a few more scratches. Bought it first week of january and noticed that comparable was coming in around 12500 during the month.

I would agree that low mileage is not necessarily a plus - look at the age. Good interior condition is a plus as it makes you feel good and that stuff is hard to fix (but easy to wreck). Wish I had a ladder.

Value of Delicas
shop around, you can find deals but they are getting rarer and rarer in this condition. the auction prices have sky rocketed in the last few months with everyone worried about the 15-year importation change.

I sold the one with the spoiler for $17,000 GST included and it was apprasied independently (by an appraiser who had appraised hundreds of JDM units over the last 5 years) at $22,000.

The one to Jon was sold at $15,000 GST included (his 3rd purchase from Luxury) and appraised at $20,000.

Both were exception units and flawless inside and out.

What is a Delica worth? depends on the buyer. some people want a highend unit for $10,000 (keep shopping) and some are willing to pay for the van they want. my suggestion is, if you find one that meets your needs and desires for the price you are willing to pay then buy it.
simple as that.
once/if the 15-year rule changes then the price for the remaining units in Canada will skyrocket, even POS "parts rigs" will sell for a premium.

as for low km being a plus, if the unit in question was maintained properly and if the unit is not a roll-back then a low km unit is a plus. a higher milage unit tht has been well looked after is a fine unit as well to the right person.
I shop for excellent quality units, if the interior s damaged then i pass, usually this dicates neglect in other aspects of the unit. if the body is damaged then i pass. if the milage is even suspect then i pass on the unit.
a low km, high end unit will usually lead to a happy customer which makes my work satisfying.
(although there is always customers you can not make happy no matter how nice a unit you supply)

as this year passes you will see all units coming into Canada having higher and higher price tags. if you find a $9900 high end unit then my advice is grab it. if you can find highend units at all then buy them since the price is just going to keep heading upwards.

not everyone needs a $17,000 unit, i know i don't. i have a 80 hairball that would make a grade A interior unit look like a grade C in less than a month. if you plan on wheeling your Delica, don't waste your money on a highend unit, it just doesn't make sense.

I think $17000 for a 15 year old van is pretty steep. Sure they are a great vehicle, but have a look at what that vehicle went for new in Japan? I think there's alot of people out there trying to make a ton off these vans, and I'm not saying it's Wayne or anyone else specifically on here, but when a Delica is starting to approach the value of a similarly equipped Landcruiser?....come on.

you're right... I would never pay as much for a landcruiser as a delica, they just aren't as practical a vehicle.

it's all a matter of perspective... at $17,000 for a near mint vehicle with every option imaginable (and some that north american manufacturers STILL haven't figured out) it's a steal of a deal... I'm seriously considering the upgrade (though it's above what I ever budgeted for a Delica...)

you can't think of a vehicle like that as being "old" at 20,000km it's almost brand new.

And what it sold for originally in Japan is irrelevant because buying a new one over there is simply not an option.

If you think you can find a vehicle in that sort of condition any cheaper, go right ahead, there is nothing forcing you to use any particular importer, or for that matter, any importer at all.

Even after my comments I am still in the market for a Delica, I just hope to find a "nice" one for a reasonable price before the market gets rediculously outta hand.

You can still get a "nice" vehicle for $10,000, what you get for $17,000 is an EXCEPTIONAL vehicle.

I paid under $10,000 and I get compliments from everyone who sees it about how nice it is, and I think it's in better condition than almost any domestic vehicle of the same age. That said, it simply doesn't compare to a vehicle like what Luxury Imports was selling for $15-17,000

As for "Before the market gets rediculously outta hand" probably too late for that, but that doesn't mean there aren't lots of nice vehicles around.

too much?

i should preface my coment by saying that i lean well to the left on most issues but what would have the guy do sell a deli for 12 000 that he could get 17 000 for? i'm in the market for delica as well and it seems to me there are nice supers available with around 100 000 k for around 11000 show me a better vehicle for a lower price than that !

mine is a nice super-exceed with all the toys, and it had 106,000km and I paid under $10,000. that is about the going rate. what you get for the premium, is a premium vehicle, one with 1/4 of the mileage and not a defect of any form anywhere on it, not to mention a warranty from the importer, as well as the peace of mind of knowing that all the necessary maintenance was done when it got here, as well as everything needed to pass inspection.

The more expensive ($17,000) vehicles aren't for everyone, and you can still be quite happy with a $10,000 vehicle. but I must admit after seeing one of the premium ones that I was a wee bit jealous, and that I seriously considered selling my current one and upgrading...

I payed 8500 taxes in. Its worth a million. But I don't have that to spend so I got a pretty good deal. I'll get some pictures of Bruce's handywork tomorrow hopefully.
