Mitsubishi Delica L400 production commenced in 1994 -- After much anticipation, the L400 arrived on Canadian Soil in 2009!

L400 compression test?

Post by joedelica »

Does anyone have an idea of where to get a compression test done on an L400?
And what one should expect to pay for this service?

Cheers,

Joe

Most shops should be able to do this (competant ones anyways) depending on what you are looking for, a leakdown test is more comprehensive - but also more expensive.

I paid about $50 to get it done on my 4Runner during my vehicle inspection at a Midas Muffler. I have not done a compression test on my Delica.

Do you have specific issues/questions about your vehicle, or are you just curious?

I do have specific issues; a vibration/hesitation of the engine or transmission when driving up to approx. 60KPH.
It may not be speed related, but RPM related. I have been told that this is the transition from 2nd to 3rd gear, but I know that
this is not the case, as I have driven (2) L400's this past week, and they do not perform like mine. Once I am up to 80KPH+, it is fine.
It feels as if a sensor is relaying the wrong info, or info too early or too late. I have sourced everything from the UK and Aussie site's
since they have more current models. There is quite a bit about faulty sensors relaying info, TPS throttle, alternator, etc. I figured a compression
test was the best to start with to ensure it is nothing in the engine? Anyone have another suggestion of where to start?

Cheers,

Joe

My TPS and kickdown cable were out of whack when I first got the van; it shifted like crap and I had to feather the throttle to avoid lurching all over the place:

Only takes a few minutes to check and doesn't cost a dime, and holy cow - what a huge difference it made to the performance. The tips on the UK/Oz sites for doing this are bang on.

Tony.

Hi Tony,

PERFECT! Thanks for the tip; didn't have a voltmeter, so I rolled the dice on a slight counter clockwise adjustment a few millimeters
for smoother changes, and it is bang on where I want it. Just took it through North Van and up to Cypress Bowl (also to play in the fresh snow!) and it
shifts great.

Thank you to you and our Aussie friend!

Joe
