Is Five star auto worth the extra money?

Good Afternoon everyone. I'm in the market for a new Delica and have noticed that Five Star Auto in Parksville is priced $3000 to $5000 higher than anywhere else. I realize they put alot of work into the vehicle. But is it worth that much? Thanks and love the forum.

Considering I drove away with the Moon Machine nearly two years ago and have not had to put ANY corrective maintenance into it, I didn't mind so much paying the extra bit.

Note: some of the dealers are not putting as much preventative maintenance into these vans as they might be suggesting. Vehicles will have the fluids topped up, not changed; tires swapped, but not with new ones; only the necessary engine mounts changed, not all of them; belts changed, but not all of them; sticker reflectors, not lighted ones (although that one is now open to interpretation); etc, etc, etc. I got new front rotor, instead of a turned one, things like that.

All told, my van had about 4000$ preventative/corrective work done to it before it showed up at Five Star. The Japanese are very much a throw-away society as we are, and they treat their vehicles no better than we do (on average). Even if you get a vehicle with low kilometers, remember, it's at least 15 years old: so was it sitting for a long time? was it idling in traffic for most of it's years? was it problematic, and hence the sitting?

Short answer: yes, I thought Five Star was worth the extra money. I didn't want to have to do a lot of maintenance to my 'new' vehicle, so I went somewhere where it was done for me.

Thanks J.Paul exactly the type of feed back I am looking for. Just so everyone else knows they also include a one year warranty. I just want to know from other peoples experience if they are good value

If they are that much higher in price then you can buy a delica elsewhere and just take it to CCautos to get all the work done and have a perfect van in the end. So now your options of where to buy are endless.

i was at 5 star yesterday, and I was impressed. I still hold that if you live on the island it's easier and in the end cheaper to keep all business dealings on the island. The time and extra money to take the ferry back and forth to the mainland just isn't worth the hassle. 5 Star seems to be a really good deal. one year warranty and a heap of brandnew parts!

We bought our van last fall from 5 star and it is great ! Yes it cost more money but all the preventative work was done right by cc autos, bumpers , bashguards were freshly painted -looked brand new. I've had a few probs but were covered under warrenty. I would do it again!

Hi Smarsh,

You will be happy to buy from them, as their vehicles are pre-serviced by the Glen And The Lads from CC Autos (aka Coombs Autos) the Sacred Service Site for Delica's. We all love CC Autos for instant answers to questions, expert service, and especially the annual Delica Education Day there. Glen and the Lads are fussy about which dealers they work with. Yes, the price is worth it, pay it in advance and be happy, or pay it in many bits of servicing later (but add in tow trucks and inconvenience).

What features are you looking for in your Deli? Have you had a chance to look at a bunch, and try them out? You can always arrange a mini-meet, set a date and time and offer food (Rice Crispy Bars or Timsbits or other exotics) and They Will Come, as all Deli's love to show off.
