Shakes Vibrate Automatic Trasmission
Automatic Transmission L300 P35W: fluide OK (or just a little bit above marks on the Dipstick), color red as it should be
Hi All !
When at full stop (red light, etc.) then push gas pedal to make the van move forward (from stop to first gear) there is a very slight shaking-vibrating laps (less than a second): is that normal ? Note that it is very slight, a mecanic man or you all Delica Wizard would notice but not everyone would do. I do not feeled-observed this in other gears.
Any Advice, tips ?
Much Thanks
Denis

Re: Shakes Vibrate Automatic Trasmission
Hi Denis, a few things to think about, in my suggested order to think about, without sitting in it is hard to know:
Dirty air filter, the prime cause of rough idle and slow response in L300's. I suggest replace every month or two. truly, honestly, the miracle cure.
Look at the rubber mounts for the engine, see if rubber old.
IP Injector Pump clogged, there are 2 internal filters, which could reduce the flow and response time (don't touch this yrself unless u are diesel mechanic).
IP O-rings old, letting in air.
Dirty injectors.
Belts worn.
etc etc
Assume your starting is OK (otherwise that's a whole other issue), Assume your weather is warm (if cold, think gelled diesel), assuming uphills ok (if not, think IP), assume mileage average 500 km on automatic with 2 tanks, assume not also running AC air conditioner (this puts extra load on engine and increases your idle speed).
maybe you can do a you-tube, don't talk or have radio on, then we can listen to it via you tube.
Keep in touch, Christine.

Re: Shakes Vibrate Automatic Trasmission
Christine Tanks a lot for your input: I will put your suggestion on my "to do" list :)
Now, I know, or I should say I feel, it is not related tu fuel-air starving in the engine, it really is at the transmission level but so subtle that it may even be normal. So for now I will live with it and get back here if it get worse or if I do find any problem.

Re: Shakes Vibrate Automatic Trasmission
Check your rear leaf spring bushings, u joints, trans mounts first. if these are worn it can cause "axle rap", or drive train back lash on acceleration. If its not that then you may be looking at transmission. My van has a nasty shudder off the line, I can make it worse if I have have to start on a steep hill. Unfortunately for me it is the trans.. but at least I have a spare sitting and waiting.

Re: Shakes Vibrate Automatic Trasmission
My vote is for drivetrain mounts too: the shudder at takeoff is typical for this.
Mitsubishi part numbers (for my van- double check your application):
Transmission cross-member and mounts MB581265 $189
RHS trans mount MB581261 $70
LHS trans mount MB581258 $77
RHS engine mount MB581191 $86
LHS engine mount MB581192 $86

Re: Shakes Vibrate Automatic Trasmission
This shudder sounds like my issue.
I would investigate the IP. I know for a fact that my ip has a few leaks and I get the shudder from a standing start that sounds very similar

I have the exact same problem, it is veryyy slight but it makes me cringe. Could very well be only thing mechanically unsound in my otherwise solid Delica. My engine has ~140k and very recently I had Butch at CVI do a full run through and service on the engine and chassis, runs like a dream. I always take off EXTRA slow from a stand still to mitigate the slight shake, especially on uphill. It definitely feels like a transmission issue to me, but Ill also have a look at the drivetrain mounts. I also swapped transmission fluids about 7 months ago in light of this issue, they are clean and red but problem is still there. I live in San Francisco and am using my Delica as a daily driver right now but im going to buy a dual sport in the next few weeks because I feel like these SF hills will exasperate the problem, and cause whatever the issue is to become worse a lot sooner.
EDIT** just saw old this thread is, what did you come up with???

Well, so far still have that "problem"...It did not got worse. I will ask my mechanic to double check the suspected parts/problem as suggested by our Brother Growler. Will keep in touch if I make changes anr/or find out what it was.
