L300 better cold weather starts

Post by Mbryant »

For the last two winters once it got below freezing my van was very tough to start, it would take lots of cranking and there would be a cloud of black smoke that would envelope anyone nearby. And that was if the inline coolant heater was plugged in. Not plugged in and it would barely start at all.

After a lot of research on this amazing forum I had the glow plugs tested and only two were working properly.

I had my local shop replace all of the glow plugs and now the van starts with little cranking, very little smoke and the clicking from the temperature regulator (not sure if this the correct name) has been reduced as well. That was just below freezing so I will wait to see if things change when it gets colder. But for now I am stoked to have a van that starts in cold weather.
