Adding a 'Thanks' or 'Like' counter to posts like on RFD
There are a lot of posts on Delica.ca that either make me laugh or are very useful and it would be nice to acknowledge these posts without having to post replies like 'lol' or 'thanks'. RedFlagDeals.com has a 'Thanks' feature on every post so that people can click the Thanks button and that user get a tally of Thanks. Its kind of a fun feature. Liek a post..hit thanks, hate a post...hit thanks to everyone that tells the poster off.
Maybe its a feature that Delica.ca might think of adding. The upside is as stated, it gives acknowledgement to great posts without cluttering up the thread with responses. The downside it can turn people into 'Thankwhores' that will do anything...and I mean anything sailor...for a Thanks.
An example for me this week are a number of CREGANS posts...they are damn funny but I don't want to make a post just to say that...

That's an interesting suggestion, and one that has really not been considered before.
Practically speaking, there would need to already exist a plug-in for phpBB3 to evaluate (and potentially implement if it looks good). Not sure whether or not such an animal exists.

'Liking' or 'thanking' is already identifiable by gauging the length of the thread: many posts, people liked it; posts that have the words 'thnx' 'thanks' 'thank you' and the like could viewed as expressing gratitude to the various posters for having shared.
Also, for those individuals wishing to keep track of particular threads that are important to them, try using the "subscribe" function - it's there are every thread. Subscribed threads can be reviewed from every user's control panel.
Adding fuctionality that is already inherent in the capabilities of the system is not adding functionality - it'll end up being little more than a waste of Mark's time and resources.
N.B. not upset or ranting, just stating a point.

This is true, but its very dry, I've seen this function in action, and its just nice, more personable. Plus people dont always reply, especially if they get a laugh, they dont want to 'me too' the thread. Back in the old days people would often do that, its not fashionable anymore.
A little love never hurt anyone, unless thats the way they wanted it.

I can see this being especially handy if someone gives out good mechanical advice. There's lots of "X2"'s out there after someone gives their opinion on a diagnosed problem. This way people could "like" someones advice.
Often there are varying ideas and responses of how people can troubleshoot issues with their rigs, but if I saw that 7 people "liked" user x's response to my post, I'd have a better idea how to approach/deal with the issue at hand rather than sifting through a bunch of posts, trying to figure out the best course of action.

YES the whole world wide web is becoming clogged with forum dead end threads from people asking before searching

Psi's suggestion would be an improvement, big time. It would give an anonymous voice to the masses who read this site but dare not engage through posts. Weighting post approval is how you improve the quality of comment threads. The problem with a like/thanks approach is that it falls short of filtering bad content. However it will mitigate some rather abusive tendencies that certain people have here and is a helluva lot more democratic than "let the loudest voices be heard".
X100 Psilon's suggestion.
