Re: L400 3.8L Mivec 5spd Sportronic w/Paddle shift
The engine is hanging in the engine bay by its own gravitational force!
The clearance to the firewall is very close to what my cardboard pattern had indicated.
I didn't do anything yet to the firewall or insulation. The cam sensor and left valve cover touch the insulation but aren't pressing against the sheet metal.
The mods to the Mivec oil housing are quite tight to the insulation.
I'm thinking of making dropped engine brackets, try to drop the engine 15-25mm to see if this gives me a little bit more space.
I can envision the fan and shroud being an issue, a slight change in the drive shaft angles and oil pans, and a hard hydraulic line on the steering rack that will need to be 'adjusted'. Other than that, I can't think of what would be greatly impacted by this lower position. But then I've been up for 20hrs and my eyes can't focus anymore...
Here's the engine hanging in an engine bay that had been empty for almost 6 months.

Would it fit in a Delica?VR Trooper wrote:Sort of... Its a Gas Turbine (Jet) engine being overhauled, its used in Sabre and CF-100's. 7300lb ft of thrust.patriceboivin wrote:Looks like you have a sci-fi rocket engine in your garage, behind the van.

Wow
Quite the engine mod project. Have you done engine swaps before?

I'll try to keep the pics coming. I've tried to document most of the project. I'll post more on the engine install as soon as I get a chance.
I've done many engine swaps on European imports but first shot at a Mitsubishi.

Damn, I wish we were closer, would luv to see the progress in person.
I can wrench to make things work right but to fully modify an engine the way you are is something I only dared to dabble in.
Hmmm, might have to get a mini kei mitsu and drop an under 2.0L into the frame. Now that would be a shoe-horn project.

2.0L Mini Kei would be pretty cool.
I have a lot of Delica road trips ahead of me, I'll probably be through Calgary occasionally.

Re: L400 3.8L Mivec 5spd Sportronic w/Paddle shift
Not in any sorta order, but here's your Morning Mitsu nasty!
Random modifications that have been done to date.
Mitsu Endeavor fuel rail with pressure regulator adapter.
Modified Coolant Thermostat/Rad hose flange.
Re-routed fuel lines and modified timing belt cover.
Drive-By-Wire accelerator pedal.
Propane injectors and mounting brackets.
Me pulling pins from three different wiring harnesses! Brain was hurting after that day...
Modified upper intake manifold with propane injectors mounted.
Machining the Bank1 Mivec oil valve housing. Firewall clearance issues required a remote mounted unit to be installed. PITA!
Three Eclipse engine wiring harnesses...
A few days later... I still have a spaghetti nest of wiring! But it weights less now...
Attempting to re-flash the ECU in order to bypass the Factory Eclipse Immobilizer.
Goodies!!! :P

Near finished wiring harness...
Bench Flashing My ECU with MMCflash (unsuccessful)
Relocated PS reservoir (mounted to pump bracket)
Engine bay at end of day
And No, I don't have a life right now... lol..
