Questions on Buying my First Delica

Post by 1 Fast Delica »

A friend of my Dad's bought a 1990 Delica with 109,000 miles and is offering it to me for $400. It is missing the power steering hose and has some minor rear end damage. (It looks like someone backed into something with it.) What are the things that I should look for that usually break by now on these? I should have pictures by this weekend.

Thanks everyone!

I'm sure others will jump in here, but it is my understanding that this vehicle can NOT be licensed in the US. I would check this out first. Anyone else have comments on this?

From my understanding the US has a 25 year rule for imports, and as such this vehicle is most likely not importable to the US...

As for what to look for... for $400... I think it's worth at least that much no matter what condition it's in...

well, if you dont buy the Delica because you cant import it to the USA... then I would buy it off your uncle... where abouts is he living?

I am serious... I could use it real bad... at the very least for parts. (Have him PM me)

There is a Wisconsin plate on it. He lives in Wisconsin about an hour away from me so I think it may be out of your guy's reach.

is it a delica? or a "vanwagon"? Mitsubishi did bring the vanwagon in to the states and it was the same body style as the delica, if it was the vanwagon it woud be left hand drive and have the square headlights.... (and I believe it would be gasoline rather than diesel, and I think it would be 2 wheel drive...)

You guys are forgetting that the US goverment used to allow Military personel some grace when returning from a country they served in. I have heard of the odd vehicle getting into the US although not 25 years old. Somebody from the US correct me if I am wrong.

if it is actually a delica imported from overseas and licenced in the US, then I would be very curious as to how they did it... and I'm sure that the International Vehicle Owners Association http://www.15years.ca would be interested too as one of the reasons that the Canadian government seems to be using for stopping 15 year old imports here is to "harmonize" with the US...

that pretty much rules out a JDM import Delica... any idea where it came from?

that is what I suspected (and posted a few posts up...) however I asked my local glass shop and they can't get a windshield for that vehicle either.... luckily I don't (yet) need one (despite the trans-canada highway's best efforts!)

I got the pictures. I was planning on making it into a driver so what are the things that usually break or wear out on these?
