make sure it is an upgrade the stock clutch fan probably pulls lots of air....

For Taurus had 2 speed fans in some that are the most desired by the hot rod or 4x4 crowd. They pull serious CFM.

I did this on ours. Will dig up the thread.

Found it on 4x4wire / mitsu diesel section.

Whole 1pc shroud/fan/motor from Taurus mid 90's 3.8v6.

$30 from wrecker.

Just tossed an inline fuse (below pic) and a solenoid.

Everything seems to be the same.

Except no fan clutch and I can control fan .. OFF/LOW/HIGH.

I like it because if I'm doing a water crossing, I can turn it off.

2 setting. Low (nice normal) and turbine tossin' high.

The reason I did it is because after the 2" body lift, I found the shroud won't go back on and the taurus fan was there, $30, had some time and just put it in.

I see no benefit to put it in except for water crossing to turn it off and after doing a body lift.

Thoughts.

Once it warms up, the clutch fan pretty much always spins. Trouble is, if the clutch mechanism fails, you never know the fan is not going (can't hear over the engine noise), and secondly, the fan don't fan when the engine stops.

Nice thing about an electric fan, as Jesse wrote, you could have a variable speed setting, or you could turn it off during a deep water crossing. As an added bonus, with a temperature-controlled timer, you could wire the fan to keep running for a bit after the engine has been shut off.

A simpler cheat might be to wire the A/C fan to a switch on the dash - that's what one of the Mexican-snowbirds did and it works like a charm. It's cheap because the fan is already there, you just have to tinker with the wiring (it's temperature controlled, but only when the A/C is running - if I remember correctly).

I did think about the ac fans, but on a hot day on a long trail would you trust your cooling system rigged up like that :-| I dont know if i would... Not that its a bad idea. Just not for my intended use :-) I do like the idea of the taurus fan, i remember my moms tausus wagon. It had a intense fan on it :-D I'm gona think it over, see if any other ideas pop up, and try to get it done over the next weak or two. The rad, fan, cooler, and condencer are all back in but i left the shroud off and the fan takes about 3 min to pull. on a Different note I'm glad i pulled the rad and flushed the system, with all the shit that came out im gona be on the lookout for leaks
