We are all in search of suppliers, I thought it was pretty neat what I came across in the search criteria of 'Vehicle Selection' in the Canada Napa Parts web site...

WOW. I'm gobsmacked!

I'll try them again next time I need something. I've become accustomed to the usual drill.

Me: "Hi, I need x for my van"

Guy behind desk: "What make and model?"

Me: "It's a Mitsu, but it won't be in your database."

Guy behind desk: "I'll check. What make and model?"

Me: "Mitsubishi Delica L300."

Puzzled guy behind desk: "Hmmm....doesn't seem to be in the database."

Me (under my breath): "Oh really? Who could've known?"

On the upside, when I blew an oil line, the Napa guys here have a machine shop in the back, so they made me one for $30.00.

You've got to be a diplomat for the cause. If a bus is pulling out ~ stop, flash lights and let him in. Hopefully he will think oh those RHDriver guys are nice! When the guy in the car park comes up and asks you that @#& ^&$^#@ question about "is it safe to make a left turn in this dangerous, man eating machine?" You got to suck it up and SMILE ~ "Why yes, it's safe! (smile more) Then you can turn it back on them and ask "hey, in your LHD vehicle ~ aren't you worried about running over pregnant mothers with their little children on the sidewalk when you make a right turn?"

What gets me about some parts shops is when they go white in the face when you tell them what you want it for and start talking to you as if you are the reason that the "Big Three" are up the creek. One day I was driving past Mitsubishi in North Van and they had a sign out front that read "We Work On Any Japanese Vehicles", so I went in. I asked the guy:

• So, your sign says that you work on "any" Japanese vehicle.
  Yes sir, that is correct.
  Um... does that include the Mitsubishi?
  (chuckes) uh, yes sir, we work on the Mitsubishi (chuckes some more)
  Great! I got a 1992 Mitsubishi Delica Chamonix GLX with a 4D56T power plant!

At this point his eyes started glazing over, I noted a slight tremor in his left leg and a spot of saliva in the left corner of his mouth.....

• Oh.... we don't work on those.
  I don't understand.
  Well.... we're not qualified....
  I'm sorry? Is this not Mitsubishi?
  Well.... yes it is (sheepishly)...
  So... I got money ~ that's ultimately what you are in business for, yes?
  Well.... yes.....
  And Mitsubishi promises that any Mitsubishi dealer will work on their vehicles.......

  Well.... it's foreign....

  So why can't you work on her... (by this time I had made my mind up that I wasn't going to take my baby here)
  ah..... because..... because your vehicle.... she.... is a diesel. Yes... Mitsubishi never introduced diesels to North America.

Seriously, just at that point a five tonne NA diesel Fuso drove by ~ and I swear it was the only vehicle on Marine Drive at that point, framed by their showroom window and we watched it go by. He had gone quiet. I turned back to him and thanked him for his time and turned to leave. He looked a little faint.

Every so often I stop by there and they see me coming and tell me that "we've been through this already" and I say, what about part number "MD XXXXXX". They roll their eyes, open their book... and.... "I don't believe it, we have it...." and I reply: Yes, funny how that happens, a Mitsubishi dealer having a Mitsubishi part.... "Who could've known?"

I whole heartedly agree with your ambassador analogy, it echoes my thoughts... but I draw the line at people trying to gain an extra car length while merging onto the Lions Gate Bridge. Then my primal instincts take over I am afraid.

Oh... tell me about it. Merging is an easy concept to grasp. If everyone keeps their patience and merges (one by one) then the line keeps moving ~ but the moment someone jumps the queue it causes everyone to stop. It's like a big long train. By the time the train starts moving again I estimate we've lost three minutes and the guy who jumped the queue might be two cars ahead but is now three minutes behind.

Seems to me the right'hand travel countries have it wrong, we should all be driving RHD's, especially buses!

I bought my Delica from a bus driver and he says they'e very common amongst bus drivers because of the position and feel of the ride.
I've also had a lot of them pull up next to me and signal for me to roll down my window so they can ask me about my Delica. This is all made easier by the fact that we're sitting right next to each other

RHD is cool, but problematic; toll booths, drive-though windows, and to the curb parking are all issues. If something just happened to be RHD, then that is fine, but I will not go out of my way just to get RHD.

It takes about 3 hours to get used to RHD.

- I've never had a problem with drive-thru's as the van is so narrow, I've always wanted to back though just for fun though. I've been too scared to try though as my friend was pulled over in a rhd prelude (apparently it's illegal)

- Curb parking is much easier (not that it's all that hard to begin with)

- Driving position is quite natural and with the use of a mirror it isn't difficult to see around traffic while passing in an oncoming lane.

- I go accros the border twice a week for gas and reaching across to hand over my passport has never been tricky with the electric windows. The only time I had a problem was when the stubborn, fat (stereotypical) American refused to bend at the waist to take the passport that was 2 inches from his hand.

There are left hand drive ones available in a few countries most are only 2wd and small motor so i guess it would be posable to do a swap over with a doner car
