i've got a little plate with 4 bolts and a tow point in the bumper now...
thinking about fabbing a plate with reciever but am worried about the bolts shearing....
any ideas?? photos are great too!!

I'm pretty sure that was strap failure. I've towed for two and a half years with the center bolted receiver on a genII. No problems. Also towed with a genI hitch attached the same way. Ha Ha, that strap was attached to the factory tow point. The only good use for that attach point is for tying it down while it is on the boat coming from Japan.
