Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Air filter reminder

Post by Firesong »

Just a reminder... blow it out or replace it regularly.
Sheesh, seems like yesterday I did this.... full of dust again!!

Seriously crazy dust... i wonder if moving the air filter away from the front tire would
reduce the amount of dust that goes into the air cleaner. I don't do that much on
gravel roads.....

Yes, the dirty airfilter definitely makes the L300 run rough and shaky ... amazing the difference a new filter makes.

I know Pablo & Anna who are still driving their L300 around the world, have put a cloth bag over the filter. The use a very lightweight cotton bag, like the kind one gets to carry groceries instead of using plastic bags. They put it over the entire metal housing from below, then tie the handle over the top. One must lift the drivers seat to do this on our Japanese version vans, they have the Europe version so the seat they lift is the simple passenger seat. Weird to see things reversed on the L300... the undercarriage and engine etc is exactly the same, just that for us to change the fuel filter or IP is easy access, while for them to change the air filter or oil filter is easy access.

Must go get a new filter filter today, thanks for reminding me. I know it must be dirty, cuz the inside of the van is very dusty (oh world drought and dust).
Cheers Christine.

I bet if I had one of those my alternator would never need replacing or adjusting...

Sheesh, driving around I have acceleration again!
I don't know why I am surprised but wow.

Stupid gravel roads in Saskatchewan.

Oh well.

I have laid on my back looking and try to see a way of plumbing an intake behind the front grill but it would be messy, I would like to do a snorkel I think that would help.
I wonder if you put a KN Apollo air filter between the intake pipe gap and still left the stock filter?

I wonder

Dustin here is where you put the pipe to have your intake in the front. Works great! The original work and routing was done by GaryO for an intercooler. I haven't got that ambitious yet.

Thanks for the pics gives me some ideas but, I think I will relook at a slightly different routing.

Ok so after looking around under the deli and looking at the air ducting. I desided to look thru the three manuals I have one fro japan and a peter russek one and a mitsu petrol version. I know people say the air gap between the two ducts is suppose to be there but the manuals say other wise i wil post pic to prove.
I am hooking my two ducts back together thus getting a bit of ram air effect and preventing the dust from blowing up into the air box area from clogging the filter.
In the pic the duct is labeled number 3
If someone can give hard proof this should not be here then please show it.

Interesting. Is that illustration out of the Russek manual? I have often wondered why there is a hatch to the top of the filter ~ I figured it was just to access the steering pump reservoir ~ but with all the other cool practicalities these wagons have, it compelled me to ponder.

that one is out of the russek manual, but its also in my mits gas one. I already have my plans in place will pick up parts and fab a connector pipe with a drop down/clean out. To allow heavy particles to fall out. I will do a write up with picks. Plans code name ''Minding the Gap'' 8-)
