what changed in 1996? Electronic injection, ABS?
I have a 1994 L400 diesel (no ABS). Would like to upgrade to a 1996+ diesel with standard ABS. Anyone know exactly what changed in 1996 model year, beyond the cosmetics. I think ABS became standard, what about the engine? Did it gain electronic injection/common rail? If so, did fuel economy improve?...

Very thick and strong steel construction: http://img.frbiz.com/pic/z1932c4e-0x0-0/hitches_strong_style_color_b82220_delica_strong_l300_hitch_3_opening.jpg They are $380 + tax new, asking $230 Jonathan 6...

intermittent no power and cloud of black smoke - fixed
Started getting an intermittent problem. She will be running fine, then suddenly when i press the accelerator nothing happens except a great big cloud of black smoke out of the tailpipe. No power at all. Like, it won't move. Then after a while it goes away and it runs fine again. EGR? Wastegate stic...

Re: Beware..you can go into reverse at highway speed
I've done the same, but managed to slam it back to drive before it engaged. The trick is to not press the button on the side of the shifter when going into neutral, it's not necessary. On the L400 there is no button. The trick is not to pull back on the shift lever when changing into neutral. Or ju...

Re: LED DRLs . Canadian tire a no go.
Don't EVER go to Cantire for a safety. They are notorious for being beyond by-the-book. They will look for the slightest excuse to fail you such as a small crack in a rear tail-light or whatever. DRL *are* supposed to go off when the main headlights are turned on, so it is true that it is best to us...

Beware..you can go into reverse at highway speed
How do i know? Doing 90 kmh on the highway I was messing about hypermiling and tried to put it into neutral. Instead I put it into reverse. Only for a second or so but the rear wheels locked up. Luckily nobody following close behind me! I didn't think this was possible...didn't mythbusters bust that...

Transmission hunting.....fixed!
Took a look at my friend's L400, which has had a problem with the transmission unable to "make up it mind" about what gear to be in ever since she bought it 2 years ago. Especially on the highway would hunt between top gear and lower gear. Took a multimeter to the throttle position sensor ...

Burning Man 2012
Just returned. Had a disabled vehicle pass from DMV hotties (lung condition) so the deli got to travel the playa in style. Sure was nice to be able to roll up the windows and turn on recirc AC when the dust storms blew in. The box spring mattress on top proved useful as well.

Re: Burning Man 2011
I've just returned from Burning Man 2012. The Delica held up well! (more than I can say for my body). Any tips on post-Burning Man maintenance? Change air filter? How do you avoid alkaline playa dust from eating your engine up? Any ideas welcome! cheers. I changed my air filter the moment I left th...

Re: The radioactive elephant in the room
The same happens at the border to my friend who imported an L400 not too long after Fukushima; he regularly triggers the gamma ray detector. The Japanese auction agent who I have dealt with for years has just closed shop because too many vehicles are getting refused export (vehicles get checked at t...

Re: L400 windshield wiper adapters..solved!
Many thanks for doing the research on the wiper blade issue! Others have said they just used Can Tire replacements, but I cant for the life of me see how they could attach these... (I have an L 400 '95 Super Exceed.) I bought the Excel + as you said and indeed the 19" pack includes the adaptor...

Re: speaker size
Had to take the door apart to fix a window out of its channel so took the opportunity to put in new speakers. 6.5'' infinity coaxials fit just fine (6032cf were the ones i used). Once you figure out how to get the trim off it was a five minute job. Had to drill new holes in the plastic and put on a ...

Pump seal was changed out and so far the issue has not re-appeared. Looks like it may have been slain finally!
