Re: ROLLCALL!!! - New and old members!

Nice!! When did the D5 production start? I wonder when we'll start seeing them. Any major driving differences from the L400? The D5 started in 2007, so...yeah...you guys have a bit of a wait! The easiest way to describe the D5 is a Mitsubishi Outlander (I assume you a have Outlanders over there?) w...

Re: ROLLCALL!!! - New and old members!

I drop in here from time to time to reminisce and see what's happening on the other side of the earth! Mark, from Australia. Lived in Canada/USA for 14 months or so from 2007-2009. We bought an L300 and did a North American lap, there's threads around here with details. Got engaged on a mountain top...

Long-term member checking in (with a D5!)

Hi all, It's been a long time since I've logged in here, but thought I'd pop my head in and see what's been happening. I'm thinking about another trip to the Northern Hemisphere later this year, and it got me thinking about delica.ca and the great times we had in our bus. some of the long-termers (&...

Delica in Mountain Life magazine!

So I arrived in Whistler today (in my Delica) and started reading through the "Mountain Life" magazine at the hotel. And there, on page 70, is a nice white delica and a full-page story about it's WVO conversion! Not much info on the van itself (its in the "environment" section an...

Re: still stranded

I'm sorry this post isn't much help to you, but was it you we saw in Ontario waiting for the ferry a few months ago? We had a quick chat before the ferry left? It think we were headed to the Bruce Peninsula? Sorry to hear of your problems. We got as far as California before we struck serious Delica ...

Re: An URGENT CALL FOR HELP! Stuck in LA!

So what was the total bill for the fix? US $2400 Which is like...CA$3000 or $400,000 AUD. :o Damn Aussie dollar! The van feels great. More power, better throttle response and I'm assuming better fuel economy (i was tracking the fuel economy and it was down 10-15% when it failed). The gear changes a...

We're fixed!

I know I've said this before, but it looks like it's all fixed. 18 days after our poor delica ground to a halt just North of Malibu we should be back on the road this afternoon - thanks in no small part to Mardy! The initial problem was the failure of the fuel pickup pump - most likely caused by the...

more problems. big ones. Mardy, I've given him your number, he should be giving you a call now - hope you don't mind. He can't find parts and can't see what has happened so hopefully you can shed some light on it. EDIT: thanks Mardy, looks like we're getting somewhere! sounds like the belt that driv...

Re: An URGENT CALL FOR HELP! Stuck in LA!

Has anyone seen the movie "The never Ending Story"? This one features a green Delica instead of that giant flying dog thing... So we actually got to drive it yesterday, although the experience wasn't very reassuring. The pump went on, the engine ran and it idled ok, but under load it went ...

Re: Still stuck in LA... 2 weeks now.

So the fuel pump failed the bench test - it cut out at 4000rpm. We said the delica has never (and will never) rev to 4000rpm in normal operation so just put it on and let us go, but they said they couldn't let it go with a known defect and they'd look into it. The injectioni pump is never tested at...

Still stuck in LA... 2 weeks now.

The name of the shop is "Diesel performance shops"...however it might be worthwhile looking around for something else if you find yourselves in our position. We've just about had enough of his "it will be ready tomorrow" promises. So the fuel pump failed the bench test - it cut o...

We may be on our way agan tomorrow!

So the latest word is we'll be ready to go tomorrow. The fuel pump should be installed this afternoon and with a bit of luck we can go and pick it up tomorrow morning. Latest guess for pricing is $900 for the fuel pump rebuild and $400 for removal/installation. A bit steep, but this is LA, so I'm no...

Re: An URGENT CALL FOR HELP! Stuck in LA!

so its in the process of being worked out. he's taken the pump off, found the seals that are destroyed and has sent the whole thing away to be refitted. as expected, the seals weren't as easy to find as he thought they would be, so it's taking a bit longer. he SAYS the pump and new seals are being r...

Re: An URGENT CALL FOR HELP! Stuck in LA!

He's positive he can fix it - he said we'll be back on the road by Thursday at the latest. He said he's got a lot of experience with Bosch systems and that these pumps are used on a number of other things as well. As for the cost - he says around $400 for labor and $800-$1200 for the pump rebuild (d...

Re: An URGENT CALL FOR HELP! Stuck in LA!

Now we're getting somewhere. I have passed on a lot of information that has come up on here, and we think we've got it worked out. to clarify: the van lost power initially (but smoothly), then it died. no spluttering or anything, it just lost power, i put my foot down a bit more, nothing happened, a...
