Long-term member checking in (with a D5!)

Post by Grungle »

Hi all,
It's been a long time since I've logged in here, but thought I'd pop my head in and see what's been happening. I'm thinking about another trip to the Northern Hemisphere later this year, and it got me thinking about delica.ca and the great times we had in our bus.

some of the long-termers ("lifers"?) might remember my story - I first turned up here in Oct 2007, just before arriving in Canada for a ~14 month working holiday. I bought a '92 L300 and took it around North America (including a non-scheduled extended stay in LA to get the fuel pump and other things rebuilt).

Some of the trip is documented here:

and here:

Then my laptop broke... We ended up doing Vancouver - Tofino - Halifax - New York - Key West - San Diego - Vancouver in about 7 months.

Shortly after getting back to Canada we sold our beloved delica and flew back to Australia. I think it has changed hands a few times since then - "bikepoor" moved it to Alberta and "salmostrom" then took it to NB. Looks like it's still kicking from a quick search around here.

Anyway, the thing you'll probably be most interested in is my "new" ride. After getting back to Oz we bought a Nissan Stagea (which I still have) but found ourselves missing the versatility and off-road ability of our old Delica. So, about 18 months ago we took the plunge and ordered a D5 Delica, straight from Japan. After a few modifications (wheels/tyres, roof racks, lights, awning etc) it now looks something like this:

Anyway, I just thought I'd say hi and introduce my D5. If you've got any questions feel free to ask. Hopefully I can find my way back up there later this year!
9 provinces and 27 US states in an L300...
6 Australian states and territories (so far!) in a D5!
