2 tanks???

Hi all

Here I am, asking about the fuel tank(s) again...

I was looking under the Deli and I'm thinking my van might in fact have 2 fuel tanks, as shown in this picture...


Am I right? Can you guys confirm if this is the dual tank setup? I noticed there's a hose connecting the 2 tanks that's why I'm guessing they should both do the same...

The "problem" I'm having is that I fill up the tank in my Deli with approx 48 lits of diesel, so I'm thinking if I have 2 tanks, maybe the second tank is not working...

Any thoughts about this issue? Anybody has an idea about what to do???

Most Delicas DO have 2 tanks, and it looks like yours is among them... 48L is a little low, but not much... how far do you let the needle dip? do you actually get the little orange light coming on to indicate low fuel? generally the light comes on at just over 60L (tank is just over 70L all told)

Can someone tell me (or better yet attach a pic), of where the low fuel light is? I've never seen it come on, although I've been well under 1/4 tank on a few occassions.

Hi Fabio,

Don't have a pic for you but on our L300 it's the fifth light from the left beneath the fuel gauge.( the one with the fuelpump symbol ), the light comes on somewhere between 1/4 and zero.

I've never seen the orange light come on, but I think I've been close, because the needle is almos at the "E"... That's why I'm guessing the second tank might have a problem...

Anybody knows how much diesel each tank is supposed to hold?

I don't get the light to come on until its been on E for awhile, and then I can still drive forever. However I hardly ever let the light come on. Personally, I have never heard about one tank not working... I would assume it is fine condition. Try driving till the E comes on. Whats the worse that could happen, re prime it? No biggy.

if you know what mileage you tend to get, drive until you SHOULD have used over 60L... once you start getting nervous though it may be worth carrying a jerry can of diesel and the instructions on manual priming...

I think you'll find that the manuals have 1 tank & the autos have 2.

This is done to accomidate the differing G.box/ transmission layout.

I think I'm going to give it a try, it sounds tempting... But, what are the instructions on "Manual Priming"???

A few years ago, I used to do it all the time in my homecountry with my UAZ (Russian version of a 4x4)... And it was super easy, but we're talking about a very simple car... Just put some gas on the tank, open the carburator's lid and put a couple of drops of gas, turn on the engine, accelerate, and off you go... Simple and reliable...

I guess the Delica is just as reliable, but is it simple???

Here goes a picture of the UAZ for the ones who don't know it or only have seen it in a 007 movie... That's another car that will never make it to the US... (or Canada)
