Just as the subject states, does the spoiler on the L400 help to keep the back window cleaner or is it just cosmetic? It looks to small to do much else. The one on our family's 1969 Polaris stationwagon did as this is what it was designed for (I'm guessing if we took it to 500mph it would have lifted the back end up as well... not keep it down). If I'm going to buy one (there expensive I know) now is the time as the vehicle is getting shipped to BC in Oct. I've had a number of vans in my day and keeping the back window clean is a challenge. What do you spoiled, I mean spoiler owners say?
Cheers,
Does the rear spoiler help keep the window clear?

L400 SWB with a spoiler; keeps pretty clean for me.
Also helps mileage in theory; I had an old '76 Honda civic, and in the pouring rain I would see the water making these two huge vortices on the glass at the back, trying to suck the car backwards.
I'd say go for it.

Re: Does the rear spoiler help keep the window clear?
I have the spoiler on the back of my L400, and the rear window (indeed the whole back) has remained quite clean to date.
However, I have not driven it with the spoiler off, so I have no method for comparison.

We have a ladder but no spoiler and our window gets very dirty, but we also take it off road on dusty roads.
Also, I wondered if you have a spoiler can you still have a ladder?

Yes the spoiler does keep the window cleaner than without the spoiler and yes the ladders are made to fit under the spoiler.

I would have to say the spoiler on my SWB L400 does SOME good. It might perform better though if I didn't have the large safari basket on the roof stirring up the air.
As for David's question... you might have a hard time finding those items... nothing is impossible though. Ladders can certainly be found if you are patient but I fear a spoiler may be a very high demand (low supply) item. Search and you shall be rewarded, eventually.
Spoiled.

Re: Does the rear spoiler help keep the window clear?
I've decided against the spoiler in the end. It would look good, but. After climbing onto the the rack a few times in our last trip I can see myself breaking the thing off by accident if it where there plus it would only make getting access to the rack more difficult. I've installed some remanufacuted Jaos mud guards that do an AMAZING job of keeping the whole rig clean, including the rear window. I'll post some pics when temp outside gets better.
