Camping Chilliwack area May 15-16

Post by delicat »

Just a heads up that a few of us will be heading out to the Chilliwack area for camping and getting the vans dirty... 8-) If anyone is interested or has suggestions please jump in.

I'll be good to go on Friday night if anyone wants to come early and will be playing all weekend...

Cheers,

We should leave on Friday. Gives us more time to play :)
Maybe meet up at 6pm at the IKEA (Coquitlam) parking lot?

How about going down to Mt. Baker (road 542)? http://tinyurl.com/38kntp4
Feels like we have seen most of the Chilliwack area already, so it would be nice to see something new.

This is probably too far, but would be nice to get the tires dirty :)

More trails we could explore near the border.

http://www.expeditionportal.com/overlan ... psaw_Trail
We also could TRY the Whipsaw. Don't think we can make the whole trail, but the area seems nice and prepared for camping. It would be longer drive from Vancouver to Princeton.

Just a few suggestions.

Princeton area good, kettle rail area can join to coquihalla, we did some last summer with canoe, would be good this time of year as less people competing for free camp spots -- and maybe less dusty roads. But is a lot of driving, compared to chilliwack area. c.

Maria has to work so I'm left to my own devices this weekend... camping sounds good. Was planning to go up to secret cabin spot near Brackendale but Chilliwack or other loc could be good too.

(Note: I can't go to the states yet though as my passport is expired and I'm waiting on paperwork from Quebec.)

High elevations - such as the Whipsaw - still have a lot of snow. They are still snowmobiling up on the Whipsaw.

The Chilliwack Valley has a number of interesting places to check out. It also has a fair number of ATVers on the roads there.

I'm working Night Shift, as well on Friday so I'd leave on Saturday very early morning (And I just have to come back on monday). If anyone want to hit the road on saturday let me know!

Could you leave the location as much precise as possible please, me and Mitsushi reallly want to go Off Road!

I'd be up for any of the above trips. I would prefer to leave Friday night if camp isn't too far. Setting up in the dark isn't ideal, but it gives us more play time. The girlfriend and I will be in a shorty Paj and were going to head into the bush anyways. Might as well go with some deli's so we can have kareoke and running water :)

Also, if we happen to head to some lakes that are belly-boat friendly, I'll be stoked to get some fishing in!

There are a variety of trails and camping areas on and off of Harrison West FSR which would make it easy to set-up camp on a Friday evening in the light. Take a look at your Back Roads Map Book.

Nice to see all the interest and new people as well!

I went playing a bit up Vedder Mountain a couple days ago, quite a few trails suited for a Delica and worth exploring. I did in the process tattooed plenty of scratches on my truck but that's what they are for isn't it?!? Some of the trails were very narrow (beauty!) and at place a bit muddy but still accessible especially if we go as a group, ready to help each others. So we can keep this little mountain as an option for a day trip...

West Harrison should have good camping spots for the number of vehicles that we are planning. I haven't done any of the side trails but they are there and waiting for us!

For those leaving on Friday night, I could meet up with you somewhere near Chilliwack once you make it here. From here we could either grab/make dinner or head up straight towards Harrison.

For Saturday departure, if you guy(s) can leave early enough I don't think any of us will mind sleeping in while waiting for you to catch up. We just need to confirm a meeting location.

So far we have:
Friday;
Delicat
Fexlboi
pajerry

Saturday;
mrji

No dates confirmed;
TardisDeli
RichD
elbosque (are you coming?)

Sounds right?

Oh, by the way, GO HABS GO!!!

Fri
- Friday crew meets at the IKEA parking lot at 6pm
- Meet up with Delicat at about 8pm here: http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&source=s ... 98,,0,9.37
- Find camp spot in the woods

Sat
- Meet up with Saturday crew at the same spot as above (10am?)
- Do some wheeling on Vedder Mtn
- Have lunch
- Go to EAST Harrison for the night

Sun
- Wheeling around East Harrison
- Heading back to Vancouver

Sounds like a plan?

p.s. mrji: Mitsushi already had some fun on Vedder last year. I'm pretty sure she is excited to see the area again: Video :)

I am definitely going Friday; just spoke to Christine and Jay who are also leaving Friday.

Chatted briefly with Coaxial; he is likely coming, tentative on checking with Mrs Coaxial's weekend plans.

Yeah, Tardis is in, see you at Ikea 6pm. But I want to exit at Lickman Road (a few minutes further along than the exit on that google map) to fill up with our usual CHEAP DIESEL AT SHELL just NORTH of Lickman Road Exit.

Can't go 4x4ing without fuel, dudes, and there ain't none where Delicat 4x4's (banjos duelling in background, voices from the bush growl "you're not from round these parts are ya?").

Shell at Lickman Road truck stop is cash ONLY, usually 10 cents cheaper per litre than town, and YES truck diesel fuel nozzles fit the delica but beware don't turn off automatically until a few seconds too-oo-oo late, ooops, so keep yr eyes on yr fuel. After, just drive straight south on Lickman road, which is almost directly in line with David's meeting spot, just need a short deek left at the river to get to the bridge to cross the river, then go right after bridge and follow road, simple.

Reminder to bring firewood, look around at craigs list or building sites, if you want a campfire.

Tardis is Del-Voy-ing (Delica Convoy) with RichD. Both will have FRS radios on the usual 5sub22. Tardis Ham radio on 147.26 VA7 JKW.

Cheers, Christine.

LOL Tardis you sound like a trucker. I can't wait to hear your CB radio drawl.

"Breaker breaker Tardis comin at ya from the front door. We'll be pullin this cab-over convoy into Lickman Road for some Go-Go Juice. Over."

Well 6pm Ikea might be a little early for me as the lady gets off around 5.. I plan to be packed and ready to go tonight and will probably get off early tomorrow.

Anyone bringing a chainsaw?? I would much rather buck up some deadfall than haul wood in a loaded SWB. Also, Im assuming you all carry recovery gear? If there is no chainsaw, I could acquire one, but I need to know tonight. If someone has room for my share of wood, let me know, it changes my packing behaviour.

Also, if there are any musicians, guitars/drums/kazoo's or whatever or mandatory! Its been too long without a fire and some tunes!
