Carfax icbc or carproofing imported used vehicle

Post by Movendi »

I'm looking to buy a used van in Vancouver B.C, from a resident from Ontario but tried to get a carfax and icbc/carproof report from his VIN but i get an error saying the VIN is not long enough. Since the van is a japanese import i'm unsure what to do now. I'm not sure how the canadian system works but is there a way to check out how legit private used imported vehicles are? Such as accident claims, insurance claims or unpaid lease/salvage. Just want to have peace of mind.

Has it been registered in Canada yet ?

It's an Ontario owned van located in Vancouver, BC ?

If it's been previously registered with ICBC, it's in the north American system (ie. History available across provinces and states).

Call ICBC and get the vehicle history from them.

I don't get what the Ontario resident thing has to do with a BC registered and titled van though ?
