I don't need hubs, but if anybody is interested I can add them to the group-buy. Depends on the quantity they are $180 plus shipping.

Hi all, I just found several sets of NEW manual hubs, the same kind of Superwinch that you guys did a group buy on. In Bellingham, in nice clean boxes in a parts store that has just bought out a dusty old parts chain store. Forget price at moment, but was about 5 or 10 dollars more than your group buy was. Will give details later if you want, sorry just unpacking from a long 4x4 weekend and whitewater canoing along Harrison East -- exhausted. Christine.

Unfortunately we lost our super winch hubs when we had the van serviced, so we're on the hunt for new manual locking hubs. We haven't heard of these, would appreciate any feedback or input anyone has about them. The thing we didn't like about the super winch hubs was the allen key stripping, have heard of too many of them having to be drilled out, and now we've had that very experience (by our mechanic), we'd like to hear what folks have to say.

Dito. You strip even high-quality bits if you want to take them off after a couple years. Not a very good design of the Superwinch hubs.
I haven't heard about Yijia either, but apparently it's a common brand in Taiwan.

Had a bunch of work done on the van, including brakes. They stripped one of the hex bolts, and when they tried to drill it out they cracked the hub,so replaced them with the auto locking hubs, same as you had before on yours.

I will take a set from which ever source is available.

This are l300 hubs. I don't think they would fit on a l400, if you want to buy one for the van in your profile

Just a little industry secret....if you strip an allen head festener....Drive a slightly larger torx bit into it and you should be able to extract the fastener.
I have never had an allen head festener that I couldn't remove this way.

Mine is a l400, in an earlier thread, someone said the hubs would fit either, if not, I'll have a l300 someday, those are the coolest vans around. I'm still in for a set.

OK - total n00b question here but...

What is the practical benefit of manual vs. auto-locking hubs? I found the following thread to be the clearest explanation (not a Mitsu thread but I'm assuming the principle is correct for the L400 system):

...but I'm assuming that whatever vacuum engagement mechanism first engages the auto hubs (which I have on my L400) keeps them engaged even in reverse. Also, once I shift from 4->2WD, I do not need to reverse to disengage my front hubs; they engage and disengage at a standstill going from 2WD to 4WD to 2WD (with unlocked centre diff).

So are manual hubs merely a simpler, more reliable, slightly more hassle incarnation of auto hubs? (no vacuum lines/solenoids to go bad, etc...)? Or is there something else I am missing? Thanks!
