Classified section for new members. Min req post count ?
Right now, anyone can sign up and post anywhere, create entire threads and place thread/posts in the for sale section.
Instead of having one-post wonders, I would like to see something like a 10 post minimum before new members are able to create threads in the for sale section.
What do you guys think ?

Another thing I've seen on a number of forums is to hide all but the General forum from public view. You only get all the additional forums after registering. This helps cut down on data mining, particularly in the Classifieds sections.

These are good ideas. I'll be sure to bring them up with Mark when I see him at the end of the month.

I am new to this site, but at BC 4X4 they decided not to do this.
The gain is you get a better for sale section. For example I would have not have found Adrocks posting over there and bought my delica had that rule existed?
Moderators can delete the bad posts.
I am new but I like new members being able to post.

since when have they posted that stuff only in the classified section?Modsqwad wrote:Me neither as long as they aren't trying to sell me cell phones or viagra.
The reality is, if they are spammers, they don't care where they post, and will spam as long as it's physically possible to post to the site, no matter where that post goes.
By limiting any specific section, you only limit people who are specifically trying to follow the rules.
Now I'm not saying that this is entirely a bad idea, I'm just saying that if you think it's going to cut down on spam by forcing people to post it in a different section, you've got a bit of a surprise coming....

No, but they'd have to limit their spamming to creating a post within an existing thread, they just wouldn't be able to create a new topic (thread) of their own.

Re: Classified section for new members. Min req post count ?
That's a different thing that was discussed here, the original thread was talking about limiting the Classified section, all that would do is move these posts to general discussion.jwfchase wrote:No, but they'd have to limit their spamming to creating a post within an existing thread, they just wouldn't be able to create a new topic (thread) of their own.

Soooooo....
Any consensus moderators ?
There are more 1-wonder posters in the classifieds again.
Sign up, post your sale and leave Delica.ca
I don't know about you guys but it feels like our classified section is like craigslist for delica's where anyone can post a vehicle for sale and just leave it at that.
It doesn't take much to figure out that the majority of the 1-post wonders in the classifieds are not sellers new to delica's.
I've been asked by old timers and noobies alike to check on unusually low priced delica's in my area. Because I'm flexible with time and like meeting people, I usually oblige.
Most of the one's I either looked at or spoke with the seller (1-post wonders I'm referring to) I find out that they are selling more than one and just use this forum to unload their stock.
My feelings about someone signing up on this forum, posting a for sale item and never posting again(ie. contributing/sharing/discussing) ?
I don't like it but that's my opinion.
Am I being too harsh ?

Totally agree. It was brought up in the moderator forum. It's still sitting there.
