Does it make sense to drive a Pajero JR in Canada?

Hello all, I'm wondering if it is possible to maintain and run a Pajero JR while living in Canada. I'm thinking of buying one before I leave Japan to bring back home. I'm thinking it might be a headache finding parts and servicing it (I'm not that mechanically inclined).

What do you think...any advice is welcome.

just make sure it's more than 15 years old, or you won't be allowed to bring it in, but otherwise the pajero is a nice vehicle...

Actually, I am looking at the Pajero (Junior Model); it's between the mini and the regular Pajero I guess.

I am concerned that when something goes wrong and I am in need of some part, it will be an adventure to track down.

Still on the fence about this decision. Looking at a real good deal though, so I wish I had the confidence to bring it home.

The JR only started production for 1995, so we don't have any (that I know of) in Canada yet as the first ones haven't been legal for import until this year (not sure what month they became/become legal)

That said, I suspect once they become legal we'll see some around, and once vehicles start to arrive the parts aren't so hard to find. You could try talking to Rocky Mountain Imports about parts for them (they're one of the leading parts importers)

Again/correspondence is appreciated. I will look into Rocky Mountain Imports tonight. I've starting looking into delica's as well on the auction sites here in japan; i can see how one could really get to like this vehicle. so far, though, the ones i've looked at are a bit beyond my spending limit. nice units though.

Where in Canada are you going to? If you are coming to Vancouver or Vancouver Island you will have no issues regarding parts as there is a great concentration of Delicas & Paj's here. If you are going to Baffin Island there may be an issue. As Green1 says ~ the vehicle must be 15 years old before you can get it into the country. If you purchase something newer you will have to wait before you can bring it into Canada.

Might I suggest perusing the forum pages of "Purchasing & Importing"... .

P.S.: Many of the parts that make up JDM vehicles were also made for North America cars.

I've been in contact w/ RMImports; we'll see what they have to say as well.

There is getting to be quite a Delica crowd in Calgary, Erebus & Green1 would be two of them. They have some connexions that side of the Rockies and shipping is not expensive from Vancouver if you're in a bind but I would highly doubt you would have any problems getting parts.
