Well as some of you know i recently bought a Delica which has broken its cam belt, well i cant find anything to suggest that this has happened, so i am a bit confused. I have asked to previous owner what happened when it broke down, so waiting for her to say (through ebay).
We took the cam belt cover off today and the belts are still tensioned, the oil is at a perfect level with no swarf, and there are no bits of engine sticking out of the head ;D. Next plan is to remove the glow plugs and try and turn the engine by hand.
Also would a compression test help?

Make sure the TDC marks are lined up first.

I don't think that a compression test is relevant at this stage, you sound to be on the right track, remove the glow plugs, turn it over by hand and make sure nothing sticks, checking the timing marks is also a good step.
If all of that passes, I'd put everything back together, check the tension of the pulley bolts, and try to start it up and see what happens...

Remove the valve cover(Rocker cover to you in England!).As usually when the timing belt(Cambelt) brakes it will either break the rocker shaft, rocker arms and camshaft caps or a combination of all 3 items usually!
Just something else to check before trying to start the engine.
Good luck
