Hard starting on blends and on WVO not purged?

Post by PlantDrive »

Every year about this time I get a few panicked calls from someone who miscalculated the ability of their blend or WVO vehicle to start once the temperatures drop. There are two ways to get one going. 1)Plug in the block heater and wait an hour.
2) Get a kettle of hot water (even just really hot water from the tap). Pour about a cup slowly over each injector. Wait a minute. Hold the accelerator to the floor. Glow plug it and hit the starter and keep cranking, for up to 20 seconds. It will likely go. If not, let the starter cool a bit, pour on a bit more hot water. Then, if blending, add more diesel to your mix. If running 2-tank, purge longer next time, winter's here, time to adjust! :-)
