L400 headlights - can you modify them

It's funny reading this just now.

On the ferry recently, there was an L400 Spacegear with funny looking lights.

Someone took the original stock headlights, crudely cut them out and inserted square DOT sealed beam lights.

Imagine how that looks and think about excuse the driver can tell the policeman who will write up a notice for government inspection when he/she sees it.

There is still two spacegear's in the area where I live (kitsilano) that have the original RHD headlights on them and they are insured and plated.

What pisses me off even more is now there are 'fake' one's floating around on the road.

Original RHD headlight assemblies with a transparent sticker that says (E13) so that it can pass as a real E13-code headlight.

This is going to cause some serious issues if one of these jerry rigged spacegear's gets into a serious accident. ICBC will have more ammunition.

Dealers using 1 pair to safety their whole fleet. Buyers too stupid to realize they just got ripped off for a $1k set of lights.

I don't want to mention names but I've seen 2 so-called "reputable" dealers in metro Vancouver do this.

The headlights cost around 350 euro's for a set. Add air shipping between two overseas countries plus customs duty and you get close to $1,000.

The other comments are not necessary.

acceptable lights will have a symbol embossed in to the lens that says E4 or E13 in a circle, there will also be either an arrow pointing to the left, or no arrow at all (if there is an arrow pointing to the right the light is designed for traffic in RHD countries)

The symbol will be embossed on both lenses, and will NOT be a sticker.

Factory original lights will likely not have any E code, and just the manufacturer's name (pretty standard in Japan it seems) If they do have an E code it will be accompanied by an arrow pointing to the right (as you look at the lens) (likely E43 if it has an E code at all)

Trust me, people that don't do 10 mins of research before buying a $10,000 vehicle are considered "stupid" in my books.

People all over this site and others have been doing extensive research on the headlight issue for over a year. Nobody as of yet has come up with a better solution than the expensive imported variety.
All the other solutions I have seen offered are illegal in one way or another, or would cost far more than the headlights being imported.

If you can show us a better solution, please do, but so far all you've done is call us names and encourage illegal solutions.

I'm not arguing against education, take a look, I never say anywhere that people should do research or get educated, who is twisting words here. I didn't twist your words any ways, I made a point in the same way you did to emphasize a point, and to think your the one calling other people stupid. Just because someone doesn't know 1 piece of info means nothing, there are an infinite number of things to learn. I'm sure there are lots of people smarter than both of us that don't know about Delica headlight, or didn't think to question that detail when they bought a "complianced" Delica.

I found this thread very educating; finally I realized that I am stupid! :o
Interestingly enough there was a similar thread on delicaclub.ru where guys were coming up with some interesting illustrated ideas but they did not loose the track of the discussion and nobody brought up the stupidity subject... I guess I know why, because if they did the mean moderators would stop the mess right away. :M

if you only have 1 mark E13 on your headlight under TYC made in taiwan its made in for RHD. not left hand drive.
the number after the E only specifies which country the approval office was located in, not which side of the road they are made for, the mark should be accompanied by an arrow, if the arrow points right when you look at the face of the light, it is for an RHD country, if the arrow points left it is for an LHD country, also, if there is no arrow at all it is for an LHD country (like Canada! :-D )
