i wonder how hard it would be to build your own in a suitcase, and just hook it up to your battery for use?

Build your own for half the price.

It's just a wand, pump and lines. Personally, I would opt for a much more versatile and thorough system.

You'd be better off in our northern climate if you're doing it 'on the road' to use a 12V heated filter, 12v heat exchanger running through your cooling system and a small centrifuge.

I have been collecting pieces for an 'on the road' filtration system consisting of everything above.

the thing that caught my attention was that it had a Racor Heated filter in it, just like my deli!
i really like to portability of it.
with princess auto at hand, i think the most expensive item would be the Raco...
12v pump is around $100 bucks at PA. the case is a pelican hard case(overkill) at around $200.
the rest is hoses and extra hardware.

just thought it was a neat setup is all...
although id be kinda paranoid to pump right into my deli tho...

what do you think jessie? would you use a single filter system for your deli?

It's not so much the filter that I'd worry about, it's the water...

If you "only" filter down to even 30u it's no problem (inboard filter might not last as long but won't hurt your truck) as long as you don't have water present in your oil. That would be my concern.

4601 Racor heated filter with water bowl on the bottom.

I was going to go with the 6400N as it doesn't have an auto shutoff on the coolant at 80°C (I got this number from a tech at Parker/Racor) and is a bit cheaper than the auto shutoff model 6401N but I wan't able to get it at the price I had though I would and it was going to be around $500

Has anyone here on the forum gone ahead and built one of these? Any experience with using them? I would love to run on WVO (when I get my delica) but living in an apartment I will have serious problems with the filtering process. As it is, I expect I will be buying most of my WVO from Cowichan.

on my mexico trip i fueled up from a guy that built a filtration system like that. but he only filtered the oil after it settled for a month.

i have now traveled many thousands of km's on long haul wvo trips. unless the oil has been through a centrifuge, only wvo that has been settled for at least 2 weeks should be considered acceptable. more settling time is better.you cannot rely on just filters and water trapping filters to clean the wvo. if there is water present in your wvo, you are looking at a $1500 injection pump replacement.

We sell a Pump and Wand setup at $375. Cleanable 70 micron filter in the Wand. I settle my oil 2 weeks, then pump into tank via Wand. Change RF900D filter (the one we sell with the Vm2 filter base) element when it needs it. Generally I get around 4-5000 km per filter element. If anyone wants a very small and portable way to test for bubbles (water), order our Vegsensor (it is normally used as a temp sensor on an injector, to have a more precise on/off of a Vegtherm, but it works as a water tester, too, if you keep one in the tool box). Just hook it up to some 12V leads, dip in oil, wait a few seconds for it to get hot, and look at the little grooved side part and watch for bubbles.
