Suggestions for my next RHD 4x4/AWD?
Hey guys,
Just a quick question. Are there any other RHD 4x4 or RHD vehicles I should be considering similar to:
Mitsubishi RVR
Toyota Carib/Sprinter AWD
Subaru
I have my Deli which I love and is my daily driver, but I'm sellling my toyota truck for a smaller car, and want to stick with JDM. The wife would like a smaller runabout car but a wagon/hatchback style.
Any other suggestions I should look into?
Thanks - and appologies for the non-Delica post.....
Steve

Seen a JDM Toyota Corolla landed, with 4x4 and a small diesel with reportedly great mileage. If your interested in Kia cars your choices increase plently, check out Japanoids website for more info.

Don't bother with Subarus if the milage is more than 100k (km). Some people will disagree with me, but from personal experience they're a money pit! My Legacy Grandwagon (2.5litre AWD soft-roader) was a nightmare and an absolute money pit. It handled great and went like stink, but there were so many problems with it; onboard computer issues, blowing head gaskets, gearbox issues, overheating, blah, blah...
They're generally dam fast for what they are so they tend to get thrashed and live a hard life. One of the main repair issues is that they're boxer engines, so they're a bugger to work on if things go wrong as you've generally got to pull the entire engine.
NZ is full of JDMs as they all seem to get shipped to here and Oz when they get a few years old and don't meet Japans emissons regs, etc. and Subarus are well known for being whipped.
If you're going JDM then everyone loves a Toyota. The most bland and boring cars on the road (save for the American car market
) but they do go on for ever and ever and ever!
happy hunting!

Re: Suggestions for my next RHD 4x4/AWD?
Thanks for the feedback guys - I was just about to add "please feel free to post vehicles I should stay away from", as I too have heard both good and bad regarding Subaru's.
A few months back a fellow posted something about a VW Golf 4X4 type edition, but I don't think I want to get involved with a VW again. I think the Toyota Carib/Sprinter is the ticket, but didn't know if I was overlooking another possibility or two.
In fact, the only reason I posted the Mitsubishi RVR is because I saw one today near work, and the 93 S-something ones actually look kinda neat - sporty with 4X4 so....

Anyhow, thanks again, would love to hear any other suggestions for vehicles that I'm not aware of but fit the bill. I'm surprised how few Caribs/Sprinters are available right now, but I have Mardy keeping an eye & ear out for me.
Cheers guys!

RVR's are very cool, and share some underpinnings with Evo's... and I believe you can get a turbocharged silly-fun one as well, which would be awesome!
I dabbled with subaru's quite heavily, and if you leave them unmodified they can be great busses - I loved my Outback - but if the mod bug bites, it's a long descent into a deep dark hole...

Re: Suggestions for my next RHD 4x4/AWD?
i was the guy who posted about the vw golf country a couple months back. i pulled out of that search as they were very expensive. if i was gonna go for a small wip around car with 4x4 i would deffs go with the subaru justy. i had never heard of em till i read a think on wikepidea on em and now im seein them every where. a bonus is their only like $1500 tops and as low as $400. if i could figure out a cheap lift with out buying one first i would jump right in. for something that cheep if anything goes wrong you could just get another one all together. now i know some one will say you get what you pay for and in most cases yes, but if ur smart and look for out it should be all good. after all iv seen my brother with a couple good shitbox cheep cars and they've gone the distance (oregon and back several times)

the problem there was the legacy branding, that means it was made in North America, the lemonade guide rates all legacys below average, all other subarus are above average. My impreza had over 300K on it when I sold it and it still ran like a top, didn't burn oil, had lots of power. loved that little car.Dave wrote:Don't bother with Subarus if the milage is more than 100k (km). if your looking for Small , sporty and VERY cheap on Gas, then do a google image search for the Honda "Beat"
small convertable that a tiny pocket rocket, sweet little cars. not for everyone, but Very cute and sporty none the less, they remind me of the Smart car Sports car from over in the UK.

the beat doesn't come in 4x4 or AWD, however there are some other kei class (super small) vehicles that do... I can't remember what they are 'cuz they weren't what I was looking for, but some of the hatch-back style ones are AWD
