auction websites ?

Post by gregvdd »

which websites are you using to participate to auctions in Japan ?

I use http://www.idirect.co.jp have some of you ever used this company ?

I am very surprised to see the average prices of delica, the most expensive ones I have seen went for 120.000 yens ! but most of them are in the 60-80000yens bracket ! (without 110.000 yen charges) so total FOB price in Japan of 230.000 Max
Am I missing something or it's very cheap ?

Money can be saved in buying from the auction , but bare in mind that you still have to ship the vehicle and get it into the country . There are a lot of posts here debating which is the best way to go either buy from a dealer here or import personally . I have said to many customers that buying and importing is to me exciting as I am buying every day and trying to find the prefect van and the best deal is a challenge . As a dealer when you buy a van that turns out to be rotten or has problems it is easy to absorb but if an individual bought a van in that was reported nice and turned out to be a lemon could you afford to part it out or repair it ?? I have likened the auction process to playing the lottery , you just have slightly better odds of getting a good van rather than a bad one . If the `hunt` for a van in Japan does not excite you then a dealer is the way to go . If the finacial risk and potential `mint` van is a challenge then try buying in Japan . As I have said to many potential customers looking at vans ` would you sooner pay a little extra and examine / road test a van before buying and let someone else take the risk of importing ?` If the answer is no then I do not mind helping with advice on importing and assiting anyone bringing them in on their own .

You can save a lot of money by purchasing at auction and importing yourself, however it also entails a lot of work on your behalf, and a significant degree of risk.

personally I was willing to pay an importer to take the risk and handle the extra work, however there are others on this forum who have imported for themselves and are quite happy about what they ended up wth.

keep in mind though that purchase price is only one charge, you also have to deal with shipping, duties, port fees, customs and agricultural clearance, compliance modifications, etc, etc...

you can save money doing it yourself but don't expect the vehicle to land here for the auction price...

There its always a risk on buying this used car,no matter what grade it is. the hard part is that to find a good mechanic & parts who look after your car. also some other problem when you recieved your car here.
not easy. so its up to the buyer which way to go.
Cheers
