Re: L400 Spacegear Orientation (Sunday, April 26, 2009)
Thanks, Mardy!
Now that I've seen an L400 in person, I can certainly see the attraction. The L300 rides like a truck. The L400 rides like a car (I tagged along on somebody else's test drive). The L400 has a lot more power, and it shows. It has more toys, and the fancy transfer case.
The L400 didn't feel as big outside, though it is in fact about the same size as an L300. It is definitely smaller inside - the walls and roof are a lot thicker than an L300, and the rounded jelly mould exterior cuts in to interior space. The L300 is a dolled-up commercial vehicle. I get the impression the L400 was designed from the ground up to be a minivan, and a very comfortable one at that. One that just happens to have the running gear and driveline of a tank.
I leafed though the owner's manual and found it nowhere nearly as entertaining as an L300 owner's manual.
The net effect for me was "butch Previa". This is high praise: the Previa is an excellent van...

Re: L400 Spacegear Orientation (Sunday, April 26, 2009)
Mardy,
Thanks for taking your time to show us the Spacegear.
I have to admit, I like the 400 more so now that I have seen it.
For me,
Pros: Engine stronger. (maybe more diesel consumption, but that's ok for me.)
Folding rear bench. (I remove bench in the summer)
Engine up front. ( i would be way more motivated in working on the engine)
AWD/4WD system
Benches down in sleep mode feel super comfortable.
Cons: I would miss the bus driving feel.
(i like the over the wheel feel and the angle of the wheel. very comfortable for me.)
A bit tighter then the 300. (behind the cockpit)
Curious, are there any "better" safety features on the 400?
Jessie, thanks for filling in alot of the details for me while Mardy was busy with others.
Mark, Sebastion, Isaac and a couple of others nice to meet you.

Mardy, I may have to come by next week Sat again. Want to measure something if allright with you.
