Need help with brakes

Post by normaltype »

Drove home one night with my e-brake on (yeah I know.....stupid) and now my brakes are dragging bad. THought it was the ebrakes that were locked but after closer inspection they are fine. The cross-linked Front left and right rear are dragging. As far as I can tell the front right and left rear are operating normally.

While driving it pulls to the left. Under braking pulls to the right (which is why I believe the other brakes are working normally)

Any thoughts?

poor alignment or poorly worn tires can pull left or right.

calipers dragging and/or rusty slider ping (common issue) can cause it to pull when braking

check your sliders and calipers first

The sliders are very prone to rusting in our climate

common sense dictates if your rotors are burning up, stop and replace your calipers, pads and possibly rotors asap.

if your calipers are locking up/dragging, you can effectively burn off the pad material and then you have no brakes.

take the advice or roll the dice.

good luck :M

do you have single or dual piston caliper's ?

the singles tend to have crappy pin's for some reason compared to the duallies.

you can grease the sliders usually unless they are rusted solid. you'll be able to tell.

it's a design flaw with the cap seal on the sliders

if your calipers are seized, the pad wear will be uneven = replace calipers and pads
if your pad wear is uneven due to seized calipers = uneven rotor wear = replace rotors

in order of what I would diagnose based on what you said

. check sliders for rust/are they stuck ? - (grease or replace)
. check calipers if they are seized all around - (replace or rebuild kit)
. check pad wear (inner/outer) - (replace all worn pads)
. check brake fluid level and if it looks brown/gray it could be contaminated - drain/bleed all brakes

didn't mean to offend buddy. internet's a funny thing. one person take offense while another just laughs .
