Hello, all, from the Freezin' North!!
Hi everyone! 'Great site on great vehicles ( By great people!). I've picked-up a '93 Deli late this summer, and have been in love ever since!! Ours has been super-reliable, great on gas, and loads of fun! We've already installed an espar coolant heater, as we'll see weeks of -40c. So far, it seems the way to go! (tricky finding the right spot for the unit, though- 'squeezed it in under the drivers side of the van by the torsion bar adjusters...) Anyhow, I've gathered tons of info from this site, and am thankful to have you all around for support and enjoyment! Cheers, Kev.

Hey Fishslapper! I'm (We, actually- the wife, son an' dogs..) Presently out in Grande Prairie, Ab. (not actually so far north, compared to Whitehoss..) - we're likely headed out the way of Smithers in the next year, which will be far nicer climes, though. I've migrated from Thompson,Mb. (about 8 hours north of Winnipeg), but still keep finding myself out on the cooler end of the country, by choice! It's funny to hear the "cold stories", because they're mostly all true, and barely believeable at the same time! I also used to fly out to the reserves out in Mb., north of churchill, (and there, too!), so i've had a good deal of the white chilly stuff! How's your deli in the cold, by the way? Any problems? What gadgets are you using?? Nice to hear from someone out that way- a friend of mine used to sling coffee at ('can't remember the name...) this wicked roasters up there- nice town! Good hearing from you! -Kev.

The espar was $2300.00 installed- you can install it yourself for a few hundred less, but there are so many little misc. parts, i figured it'd be easier to have them do it. That is huge money for us, but necessary here, and we had factored it into the price of the van when we bought it, so... Hope this helps!- Kevin

Re: Hello, all, from the Freezin' North!!
Hi Kevin,
I too have a '93 SE Deli. I recently picked-up an Espar D5 diesel-fired, hydronic heater. My plan is to include a bypass valve that lets the Espar flow through the cabin heaters at night, without wasting a lot of energy keeping the engine hot. Then, in the morning I can flip the valve and allow the engine to pre-heat before starting. I am on the balmy coast, but will be using the Deli as a commuting-camper to central Manitoba repeatedly this winter.
Just a few questions:
Do you know how they tied your furnace into your cooling system?
Does your system include a room thermostat?
Does it heat your engine?
Is it working well for you? (I know that you've had one or two "cool" evenings lately).
Grant

Re: Hello, all, from the Freezin' North!!
Hey Grant- The heater is working great- heats only the engine, though, not the cabin, but at about -15c, it'll bring the engine up to above the red lines at the bottom of the temp gauge! I just turn the key, and we're off. The controller has three timer settings that can be set for any day of the week, and you can also adjust the duration up to 120 minutes. I will crawl under and have a look at the tie-in points, and if I can, I'll take a few pics and post them for you. That sounds like quite the commute your making! We're headed out to Wpg. for a couple of weeks @ xmas, too. - It should be fun!! I'll try and get the pics up for you tomorrow- Kev.
ps- I know espar also make a cabin heater, but am unsure if it is just a different controller/ tie-in point, or a whole different unit- you'd have to check their website
