air filter box question

Post by stef »

hello guys,
this is my first post here.
I drive a delica L300 with the diesel engine, by the end of the week we'll leave with my familly for a western australia tour.
on the way back home we'll pass the gibb river rd, with a few "river" crossings, and i was wondering if you had plugged the holes in the lower part of the airbox, the one you take off to change the filter?
or is it wiser to let it as is?
the water level doesn't seem very high, from what i can gather it shouldn't go above wheel height, but by then this means the airbox is partly submerged.
so i'd be pleased to read about your experiences.
another little question, i read here and there about "Rear fold out spare tire carrier ", are there any pictures to be found in the forum?
cheers
stef

Personally, I would leave it as is. It is an overflow valve. But I would make sure that the rubber part of that valve is there, which is designed to let water out but not in (like in a respirator).

Cheers! Falco.

If you have a standard air filter set up then leave it stock with out filling & blocking.

If on the other hand you have a snorkel then block this off.

thanks guys, yes i have the normal set up, no snorkel.
so water shouldn't get sucked in by this little hole?
do you have an idea why they left it there?

the little hole should have a rubber cover on it. its a one way valve. alot of delicas seem to lose them along the way...
