A few deli drivers out there have expressed interest in having a look at the "Island Underground". My caving club (VICEG - Vancouver Island Cave Exploration Group) is doing a camp/caving trip on the upcoming equinox wknd (Sept. 20 - Thurs. thru Sunday - Friday night and Sat. for me) to an area about an hour from Campbell River that offers some nice friendly caves without long access hikes or the need for ropes (though several do and on this wknd one project is to drop Fishy Hole at about 80m

) The camping is roadside rustic, though our guy in Sayward has done a bunch of prep. work, including building and installing a nice bog (latrine

) There are many roads to explore (some of which even rival Bruce's UK lanes for gnarly 4x4 challenges

) and the river canyon there is really cool too, so there is lots to do besides caving. And being on north Vancouver Island, the weather is guaranteed to be sunny and pleasant...

Unfortuanatly there will be hauling going on too. Our club does have a bit of loaner gear, and as many of the caves are very friendly and short, not much specialised kit is required (apart from the Fishy Hole trip!). No need to be a member of VICEG to join in, so if you are interested in checking out caving, this might be a good opportunity. If anyone out there is interested let me know.
