Chucking it out there...

Hello all,

I've been on the forum for several months sans Delica. Now that my finances are now in order, I'm ready to buy!

Unfortunately I can't seem to fine the right Delica... so I'm chucking it out there:

I'm interested in a top quality Auto, (looks good inside and out) Crystal Lite roof, Exceed in a darker color (green, Charcoal etc..) prefer '92 or '93. Obviously the lower the KM's the better.

So if you are a dealer or you have an extra Delica in your driveway drop me a line.

Not necessarily so. Extremely low mileage can mean the bus has been sitting at idle in big city traffic (no chronometer to tell you the time it has been running). Or, possibly even worse, it has been doing nothing at all besides rotting, parked and neglected. And finally, though not likely, the odometer may have been turned back. We bought our bus at 64,000km. and since then I have spent a bit of time here on the forum and talking with others and believe that this is the lowest I would want to see on a delica I would buy. 100,000 - 150,000 or even 200,000 is a good target to aim for. The most important thing is to make sure your new bus has been fully serviced by a deli expert like CCautos in Coombs. Even if it has low kms and they are real, the bus will need a timing belt, tensioners, rad core, injector service and more. A delica is a great choice - you'll love it! Happy hunting!!

I fully agree... I suppose that low KM's don't always mean better vehicles. However, given that even a 150k vehicle may have been idling in traffic forever, there is no way you can guarantee anything. I also agree that with proper service you can help insure a longer life vehicle. So in the interest of maintaining a basic standard I would say that (legit) lower km's are a decent benchmark for a vehicle that has had less time on the road.

As far as the amount of time the vehicle has sat for and the issues that arise from neglect, there isn't much one can do about that, other then a good tune up and a solid once-over from a good wrench.

Interestingly I was actually thinking that low KM's we're hovering around 100-150k in the vehicles that I have looked at. So even still, I agree with you...

the main issue with low KM engines if they sat unused for long periods isn't so much a once over from a good mechanic type fix imo, the problem is that the seals and bushings and anything rubber or plastic or the like will dry up and you can get leaks and loads or other issues. but do what feels right for you.

yeah... I wasn't sure about the drying out of gaskets and seals part.

I wonder if there is a way to know about how long it sat for, low KM's would be an indicator for sure, but is there any other way to tell?

Hi, the only thing i could say do the full service on you vehicle when buying a delica. so you dont have to worry about this.
if you need help to find a nice & fully service delica pls call me anytime i do have some delica in stock super exceed or exceed with crystal lite roof. 92 & 1993.
i do full service on most of my delica.

I would say the best way to make sure you don't have issues is get your van from Mardy, five star, or one of the other of the handful of highly recommended dealers, they will steer you in the right direction.

Thanks guys, I've met with Mardy. Took a trip out to Richmond from the island on Sunday. I have to say, Mardy is pretty great, he met us on a Sunday morning in the pissing rain just so my wife and I could have a look at some of his inventory and let us go for a test drive.

So I am one major step closer to being a full member!

Mardy from Amazing Auto has hooked me up with a great Green on Gold Delica, 92 Super Exceed Crystal lite roof, with only 55K. I dropped my deposit and now it's a waiting game.

It's now on its way here from the motherland. I'll be fixing two of the shades but otherwise no rust and ready for my young family.
