Steering adjustment?
Steering adjustment?
Can anyone provide the procedure for taking up the slack in the steering? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Steering adjustment?
Check your tie rods, balljoints and front end bushings all for play/wear.
Re: Steering adjustment?
I brought it in to West Coast alignment to have the torsion bars done. I had bought new tie rod ends, inner and outter to have them replaced. They check over the whole front end and said they did not see a problem and that there was no need for replacement. The front end seems tight. It's just that there is a lot of free play in the steering wheel.

Muzzy,
Can't look at mine to confirm 'cause I'm still in the UK but I'm pretty sure the steering box has a adjuster to tighten it up. You'd probably have to remove the small skid plate to access it then follow the steering link to where it goes (a box of somekind). There should be a adjustement screw/bolt that you can tighten up.
Let me know if you figure it out, if not I should be able to give you an answer tomorrow for sure.
Good luck,
David

Re: Steering adjustment?
ie. My Delica has more wheel play then the last couple Pajero's but my Jeep had more than my Delica and my Subaru had less.
Sorry, couldn't resist
How much free play are you talking about ?
What is a lot of play to one person is normal to another. Did you compare to other Delica's ?

Re: Steering adjustment?
I haven't really measured it. But my guess would be some where around an inch or so. I don't know if that helps. No I haven't compared it to other Delica's.
This is the only thing I can see that might be used for adjustment. Is this correct? Looks hard to get at.

Re: Steering adjustment?
Delica's don't have steering box,it's rack and pinion and as far as I am aware are not adjustable,I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong !!!
Mick.
PS I think there is a coupling joint or 2 on the steering post (can be seen from below ) may be flogged out ???.
