Good Place for Oil Change in Vic?

Post by Johnny&Ruby »

So to keep up our warranty that we received through FiveStar up in Parksville, we're required to do an oil change every 5000k (standard, I know)... Juniper just cleared that number. We are heading up Parksville way next week but it's on vacation and we ain't keen to stop for a couple hours to swap fluids. Anyone know of a good place here in Victoria that knows Delis and can provide this service?

Talk to Ray at Marigold Service. He works on a lot of Delicas. http://www.marigoldservice.ca/index.htm

I'd stand there and watch while they work if I ever took my deli there again, everything they touched on my van was done very sloppily and unprofessionally and I will have to re-do it all when I get the chance.

Spend a couple hours of your vacation and get Glen to do it, I think he can book you so you aren't standing around too long, and the peace of mind will be worth every second.

I'm not going to chime in on the "Marigold Experience" some others of us have had, but do you have to have someone else change the oil, or do you just have to change the oil every 5000km?

What I mean is, swing by my place and I'll show you how to change the oil for yourselves. It's dead easy!

according to the extended warranty, you have to have it changed at an "accredited" shop and they have to stamp and date the invoice, which you have to fax or otherwise send in, assuming of course this is a Lubrico warranty you're talking about.

It's kind of a pain, and it makes it expensive, but if you don't follow the rules of the warranty it will be null and void, and if you ever get in a mess that you need it (as we did), you don't want to find out it's no good because you didn't follow the rules.

As far as oil changes go, I think you can have them done at any of the oil change places (quicky drive thru), or other shop. Just make sure you have your filter and they use the right oil. (ME!)

my 5 cents worth of advice re: Marigold Sewrvice

Post by .Delicious. »

...don't think they know what they are doing just because Ray sounds so confident. My experience has been quite disastrous and I got my van back with bolts missing, cracked plastic cowling and a lot of BS. They quoted me $500 dollars to have my starter rebuilt and at Coombs you pay $275 no matter what for a rebuilt. They quoted me $1500 to $3000 to have my fuel injection system rebuilt when all that was needed was to remove the hose from the EGR unit and plug it. Glen / Coombs was able to diagnose this over the phone when I called him in horror of such expense after I had just bought the van from them 9 month earlier. So beware!!!! Coombs knows and MF is guessing.

i just find it hard to believe that there are absolutely no trustworthy places in Vic. I love going to Coombs and ccautos is absolutely perfect, but no oil change places in Vic at all seems crazy to me

Mr lube? An oil change isn't rocket science, bring a filter with you and any shop can do it.

It has much more to do with liability than anything else. If the oil change is not done "correctly" (i.e. the filler cap is not replaced and falls into the fan or belts, the drain plug is not re-installed correctly or is cross-threaded, wrong oil, too much oil, wrong filter, etc, etc, etc), the shop has no recourse to fall back on to say that it's employees where properly trained to change the oil on that vehicle.

Most of the staff at those places are not trained mechanics (they've been trained to change oil, transmission flushes, etc).
