New member wanting info

Post by drrod »

My SO has had her heart set on an VW bus. So far I have discouraged her because I think the upkeep would be prohibitive (not to mention the lack of "fun" factor). We have see several Delica's and she has fallen in love with it. So......it looks like a purchase is in the offing. We would use it for some overnight camping, ski trips, etc. I live in Calgary.
What I would like from the forum is:
1. What to look for when buying? ie. problem areas to examine
2. is there anywhere in Alberta (or Saskatchewan) that we would be able to get knowlegable service
3. Where is a good place to buy from (reputable dealers in BC/AB)

Thanks
Rod

Welcome SO and Drrod,

I just posted an answer to similar question, see Newby Wanting answers ish.

Delicat will probably be best resource for VW vs Deli debate / he sold both his classic old VW, bought his deli, now he has ordered a deli for SO, and a deli for dad. So, he is happy with deli.

Way more reliable, go anywhere, and you can run them on fried chicken oil. And so wayyy funkier.

Come visit us, meet the locals, SO will be hankering for one each then.

Cheers, Christine.

Well we are now the owners of a Delica. We were lucky enough to find one right here in Calgary that was for sale. Great condition with all the extras that we wanted. The only thing that I have done is put in a new stereo. The old one was a DIN2 Pioneer Carrozeria unit. It worked (at least the CD and the one FM station that I could get) but either the other functions didn't work or I couldn't figure out how to run it (it is less than intuitive). However, if someone wants to "restore" the look, they are welcome to it. Drop me a PM. I also have the FM converter for sale ($30) if someone wants that as well.
Thanks to all who helped us in our search and the advice (Big Thanks to Mardy!!!)
Rod
