Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

front/rear clearance

Post by biozach »

The front end on my Delica seems to slope down, lowering my tire clearance slightly in the front. Does anyone know if the tire clearance in the front and rear should be the same? I'll be putting on 235/75/15's. I'm thinking I should crank up my torstion bars slightly to even out the clearances.

Hi Zach,

Front and rear should sit pretty much even.

Torsion bars tend to sag more than leaf springs, so the front often looks lower than the rear after 10+years (15+ in Canada's case  )

Give those torsion bars a good seeing to with a spanner (17mm) and you'll have it looking right again... :D

As a plus side, you'll also improve the ride, handling and mostly the braking... 8)

Winding up the torsion bars will make it ride slightly firmer and handle corners a little flatter, but best of all - the extra stiffness gained will enhance braking by reducing nose-dive and making the whole motor feel more balanced and predictable..... :D

If you are thinking of slapping on some 235's (or 30" which are the same) then you might want to remove the mudflaps from the rear of the front arches. These can rub quite a bit with 30"/235's although this is not always the case (this all depends on how aggressive the tread of the tyre is - which is something I can't help you with... )

If you are thinking of doing the torsion bars, consider making one of these (a tool I've adapted to make torsion bar adjustment a piece of cake! :P )

(more details of how to do it HERE)

Best of luck with is and if you need any help, just give me a shout.....

Regards,

Bruce.

Well, I'll owe you a brew for that advice. I'm sure I'll need more advice though. How 'bout I'll just run a tab. 8)

I have really agressive tread on my 235/75/15's that i put on my motor and never needed to remove the mud flaps... there is lots of room, just dont go any wider.

  So you learn something new every day! :D

Is this on standard rims Josh? Every motor I've encountered with 235/75's has been on non-OEM rims, so maybe different offsets has something to do with it?

The Mud Monkey is running on 235's (30/9.5/15) on aftermarket rims and the front mud flaps were shredded! I also don't think it helps that the torsion bars seem very low! :? (something to be addressed before too long! )

I think you'll be safe from paying for your drinks your entire trip with the wealth of advice and information you have stored up...
"Mystery Machine Advice Line - payment accepted in beer and vodka or both!!"
not sure I'd want to be one of the later people asking advice though... it may deteriorate after too much payment....

No, no, no - you've got me ALL wrong!!

The information is still highly accurate, it just takes longer to reach verbalisation due to a chemical clash of beer vs. thought processing and some digressionary interjection!!

It may also be harder for you to understand the fully addled english accent through your equally intoxicated hearing!

What I am basicaly trying to say is: I accept no responsibility for messed up mods performed as a result of listening to my rantings when p155ed!

Nuff said until the beer starts flowing!

Bruce,

My rims are the same ones I had on when I bought the Deli... but they are sweet looking and might not be standard. I never did measure them. However, I have a hunch they are standard, and I have never had any tire rub at all anywhere on the mud flaps. I even have room for a little bit of snow and slush build up.

Don't worry, I know I am giving you some new info (advice maybe?)... but you dont have to start buying me beer. I think I still owe you half a dozen with all the advice you have tossed my way. Wow, like Green said...
