Delica's normally come equipped with 215/85R15s (although that is not readily evident from the door sticker). 235/75R15s are suitable replacements (only about a 1.2% difference in tire size).

And here is an excellent article on backspacing and the importance of getting it right: http://www.fourwheeler.com/techarticles ... index.html

Not right = rubbing and/or damage to steering assembly, wheel well, tire, etc.

Good person to check with, I think, would be Mystery Machine.

It's funny, I've pointed many people to that backspacing info link. :-D

I'm familiar with rubbing/linkages binding,etc.. as I fabbed (DIY) quite a bit on my Jeeps and Pajero (body/susp lifts) but have zero experience with Delica's.

I'm just in a pickle of choosing one set of rims out of the two. My Pajero is gone in two weeks, we're moving into a new place and both Delica's are coming in so we are VERY tight on space/storage.

Hence this post.

If you had two sets of rims to choose from and can only pick one.

15x8 3.75" or 4" backspacing, which would you take.

I know some of you guys are running these rim sizes out there.

You see them on 80% of Toyota's out there.

I'll shoot MM a PM.

jfarsang,

Would it help if I stored your rims until you get your vans? That way you could fit and compare once you get them. I'm in Burnaby and would be happy to help you out, just let me know...

If anyone is interested in the stock 15x6 Delica rims (many versions) measurements.

Here they are :

Depends on the tires you plan to install obviously. Assuming you're not installing anything too massive your pic seems to suggest a 4" offset on an 8 inch rim would allow you sufficient width.

I'm running a stock landcruiser 80 series 16'' wheel. I'm not sure exactly what the backspacing is but the offset is pretty large and the wheels stick out considerably more than stock.

I've had no issues with wheels rubbing or linkages binding (I checked on a jack to make sure nothing comes close). The track is CONSIDERABLY wider, and it helps a great deal with stability. The stock track is pretty narrow for a high center of gravity vehicle like a delica. With the wider wheels on it feels a lot more stable round corners.

I bought some 15x8 (3.75" backspacing) alu rims. Test mounted them and they sit just a 'hair' out of the wheel wells.

Nice and wide stance. Will snap pics when my tires get in.

So the following rims work without flares :

15x7 / 2.75 or 3" BC
15x8 / 3.75 or 4 " BC

For anyone looking to toss on 31's or larger.

Maybe this has been exhausted elsewhere but any issues turning 31's i.e. fuel economy, acceleration?

I don't know anyone except for Josh who's running 31's on an auto and that has responded.

http://www.delica.ca/forum/upgrading-to ... -2738.html

I do know that I've seen delica's come in at least three different gear ratio's 5.285, 4.875 and 4.625's. You can check by looking under your driver's seat carpet (little 3"x2" piece already cut out that folds up).

Out of the zillions of Delica's/Pajero's I've looked at over the past few years, the majority I would guesstimate 80% have 4.875's (auto) and 10% (5.285's) and 10% other ratio's.

I had one with 5.29's (5.285 ot tractor gears as well call them) and it was a necessity to run at least 31's (I chose 32's) to lower the RPM's down and keep the flow of smooth shift points at an acceptable rate across the board while accelerating.

I have been driving one Delica for a week with 4.875's (average gearing) with 30" tires and at 100 km/h I'm sitting at 2,530 RPM. Another Delica I drove, same gearing (swapped tires) same tires, at 100km/h I was sitting at 2,620 RPM). 2nd one probably had some drag on it (crapped out bearings, brakes, driveline components, etc...)

I'm going to toss on 31's and get the RPM's down a touch more but I'm going to expect a decrease in fuel mileage and acceleration.

The only upsides to going to 31" tires are -

Lower RPM on the highway
1" more clearance drivetrain/body from the ground

Downsides -

Decrease fuel economy
Decrease acceleration
Have to modify body parts a bit at full tilt / articulation

30" tires with the 4.875 gears seems to be the magic combo.

Of course, tread pattern, tire width, tire pressure, light/led foot on the pedal will all contribute to different readings.

Well, and also bigger tires just ride better over bumps/potholes etc, have less tendency to dig in in soft ground/sand, etc etc.

Hi Jesse,

Looking to change my stock rims to a wide enough offset to sit "relatively flush" with the standard
size Deli flares that I have; but I do not wish to throw 31's on and do modifications.
So which offset would work best with flares?

Cheers,

Joe
