EGT Gauge freak out

Earlier this year I installed an EGT gauge. It's been great for the anxiety, I monitor it fairly closely, stays between 400C and 550C on the highway and 700C on the bigger hills.

But, today, I'm sitting at a traffic light and glance over to see 1300C!!! and it's flashing and HOLY S**T!!! I pulled over and shut 'er down. Waited a few minutes and started it up and still at 1300C! WTF?!! I check the water temp gauge and it's sitting at a quarter warm, like normal. I drove to work and watched the EGT go up and down and up and down, 300C...1300C...400C...1200C... and I'm thinking the gauge is the problem.

Heavy rain all the way in. Maybe water is messing with the sensor somehow...(it is not a high-end product...amazon very low-end, to be perfectly honest...

Despite I am a metric canadian guy

I use the F scale for my gauge, like most of us I would say. Anyway, the coldest readings on my Van will be in the traffic, iddleling in the upper 300F/lower 400 as I can remember. Something is probably wrong with your probe ?

LOL! Yeah, the gauge is the problem. 1300C (2400F) is the melting point of steel. Your exhaust would have been glowing white hot.

I have an Autometer Sport-comp EGT gauge, and it's been super reliable compared to the budget gauge I had before. A bit pricey though at US$200; http://a.co/9Bz7IM3

"My van isn't running very well" as molten metal drips onto the asphalt starting small fires in your wake. Yes I bought a cheapie EGT gauge as well and I'm planning on an upgrade. The day I'm towing a trailer of course it's spazzing out, driving around town, works normal. Stupid thing!
