Rear Heater Removal - Impact ?

Mitsubishi Delica L400 production commenced in 1994 -- After much anticipation, the L400 arrived on Canadian Soil in 2009!

Rear Heater Removal - Impact ?

Post by mistral »

Hi folks
In my ongoing quest to expeditionize and generally declutter my L400, I have decided to do away with the rear heater and related plumbing.
Would anyone be able to tell me if cutting and plugging the in and out hoses going from the T connectors in the engine bay to the rear heater is a bad idea due to it perhaps being an important coolant path ? If that's the case I'll have to create a loop from in to out instead.
Many thanks

It shouldn't have any adverse effects. L400s without rear heaters appear to have the same plumbing, just without the tee-pieces.
Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.

Are you removing the rear heater assy? Is there a real advantage and can you do it in 15 minutes or less?

You could measure the temp drop across the heater core with a laser temp probe on a hot day..... Diesels may need the extra cooling, even L400s crack heads :-( . If the coolant lines run into your head after flowing thru the rear heater core (like the L300) I'd leave it in place :-) .

At the least I'd loop the lines at the heater core rubber hoses with a copper 180 degree bend. Try it for a summer or a hot trip in the mountains first.

Many thanks for the feedback. For the minimal effort involved I think I'll put in a loop just in case.
