The old side-exit exhaust was kind of an experiment. Thrown together from old bits I had lying around, its main purpose was to make room at the back for an extra fuel tank. Making extra boost and power wasn't an unwelcome consequence either. The noise, though, has become irritating, especially when towing. Time to build a proper exhaust system.
buy a bunch of parts:
...and build a new system. Side exit, but with a full-size silencer as well as a bullet style resonator. Exhaust tip aimed slightly downwards too, to hide the occasional belch of black smoke. (Pictured here upside-down and backwards, just for confusion. The large u-bend goes around the right side front leaf spring mount, if that helps).
And installed- (terrible pictures, sorry, it's night time now )

It's much *much* quieter than the old one. I'll have to do a lot more driving to see what effect it's had on EGT and boost levels, but since I've gone from 2.25" to 2.5" I'm hoping for only a little impairment, despite all the gnarly bends.

LOL I wish. It's to cure the high temperature exhaust paint- for best adhesion and strength it needs to be heated to various temperatures and allowed to cool. Easier to do that off the vehicle.

Sweetness. I feel a little emasculated glancing down at my tiny little tail-pipe.

Sure! I used (in order from exhaust flange):

Existing exhaust outlet flange- was previously bored out to fit 2.25" tube

2x 45 degree 2.25" (57mm) bends (for the downpipe- 2.25" clears the retaining springs, two bends moves it away from the bellhousing)

1x 2.25" to 2.5" (63mm) flare (just before the hotdog style muffler).

500mm long 63mm inlet/outlet louvered centre tube hotdog muffler (the louvres make it quieter, but I suspect they've given it a slight whistle. I'd go for a perforated centre tube if I was doing it again. Open side of louvres face the engine). 255mm x 105mm oval 63mm in/outlet offset/offset straight through muffler (I didn't want to risk the flow loss of a chambered muffler) Half a 63mm donut for the sharp turn.

A short length of 63mm pipe- my bends had fairly long tails, so I just used a piece off one of them.

1x 180 degree 63mm bend (conveniently wide enough to go around the spring hanger)

1x 90 degree 63mm bend

Recycled exhaust tip.

I've since had to add a bracket to stop the exhaust tip vibrating at about 1500rpm: You can probably see in the above photos that I had to double up the right side exhaust hanger as it was taking most of the weight. Doubling it up also stops the exhaust from moving sideways too much and hitting the spring mount.

For a little less than $150 i build this one today.
I was kinda planning on doing the same as yours but the the constant exhaust noise and powder coating smoky black my rear tire has now annoyed me more than ever... darn photo adjustments!!

I was wondering if side exhaust was possible on the V6. Hmmm... The gas tank makes dual exhaust to the rear bumper almost impossible but if the exhaust was shortned to fit out the side, maybe just maybe....

Any comments gassers?

"Almost impossible" is my second most favourite phrase, after "completely impossible". Though I'm not sure what this "V6" is of which you speak. It sounds overly complicated.

Gotta love your humour . Overly complicated but with it's age slightly dinosaurus. Imagine having chip boards to run your windows up n down.... What happened to hand winding??

The USA happened. Winding your own window is *hard*. You'd have to put down either your phone or your Big Gulp. Computer-controlled safety power windows are even worse- in my day, if you played with the window switches and amputated your arm it was your own damn fault and you learnt not to do it again.

Also, you kids get off my lawn!
