Konichiwa... and I'm stuck in Park!

Post by Ian Weniger »

Hello from Brewery Creek, on the northwest side of China Creek in Vancouver.

I am stuck in Park. Usually a dozen hipsters would stop vaping and offer to assist but I'm on a deserted road on Pender Island. I cannot wiggle the stick out into any other gear. What am I missing?

HELP!

I found a fix.
I pressed the brake pedal and the gear level released into the rest of the gears.
PHEW!

Welcome! And that's not a bug, it's a feature :-) In an L300 Delica you must have the ignition key turned *and* foot on brake pedal to move the shift lever out of Park. (I'm going to assume you have an L300)

Perhaps we should assemble a drivers' manual for the L300. I'm so used to Japanese vehicles that I forget other vehicles behave differently. Just in case though- the most important (expensive) thing to know about an L300 is that 4WD can only be used off road (on surfaces that allow a bit of slip). Using it on paved surfaces can damage the drivetrain.
Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.
