I smell Diesel

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

I smell Diesel

Post by Kuan »

There is diesel smell on the passenger side of the vehicle. I think I have a leak. No spots on the ground/snow though.

I am going to crawl under today and have a look at the engine but if anyone has a suggestion of who the most likely spots might be would be helpful. I don't have much automotive knowledge here. Waiting for my manual to arrive in the post.

Thanks,
Kuan

injector pump??? seems to be a common problem with our low sulfer diesel. mine has'nt gone yet... i add injector cleaner/ lube additive trying to avoid it as it is a costly repair.

another thing i worry about with homemade bio diesel.

Hey also look around your filler cap.. its on the passenger side too and stinks on mine if I overfill it and spills down the side. the slightest bit of diesel in the wrong place can stink for a long time....ie: ever got it on your clothes?

Its common for the top seal where the top 1/3 of the pumps meets the bottom. Its attached by 4 allen bolts. If you check for leaks you probably won't see one during idle, so use your hand throttle (some people think this is a choke but its not) set it with revs high... say 3000 rpms that whay the pump will be under more pressure and expose a leak.

Hey guys thanks for the tips.

I'll rev it up tomorrow and check it out.

Thanks for the link, good info on the repair.

Does anyone know where to get the O-rings for replacement? Anyone have sizes and/or part #s.

Oh, and can anyone one recommend a good diesel mechanic between Nanaimo and Victoria with some experience on these Beasts?
